Middle of a good game, then someone manages to get on the arterilly gun behind German spawn. For the next 3 minutes I die along with 5 other guys while we can't even move while "uncle" shoots us and his buddies plant our bases for the win. If no one wants to remove a gun that has no purpose being there except to kill the Germans own soldiers at spawn point, fine. But I for one will stick to Barbarbossa from now on then, unless Smoensk goes back to the other game type or this retarded gun is taken out. A good game is completely ruined for several players because one guy is able to rape you at the spawn with no skill and no worries that the players being raped can do anything to stop him. I'm not dealing with that frustration anymore. I hope others join me and move from Smolensk until this problem is either fixed, they change the game type, or no one plays until the server goes back to Barbarossa.

I do admit I'm angry now right after one guy got probably 50 kills in a row, but there is nothing the dying people can do to stop it. The map is fatally flawed. Once more people learn this trick, the stupid fucking map will be unplayable for Germans. So I'm expressing my frustration now so people might realize why Smolensk is destined to have fewer and fewer players is this bullcrap gun remains.

Uhh... Bit harsh to send it to hell for that not? Slyk and his team putt loads of effort into Smolensk... no need to start flaming on it because some person starts spawnkilling hell. Maybe druid or so can take that pakgun out?

It seems the Russians spend more time trying to get control of that pak gun instead of trying to actually win the game lol. I've said all along that this map would eventually become unplayable (for Base Assault). Which is too bad, because I think I enjoy it more than Barb.

Well, I was pretty hot when I wrote that. But you know what, so were the other 5 guys while we got killed for literally minutes on end and were helpless. I saw them typing, complaining, saying they were going to report "uncle" for spawn killing (not everyone knows spawn killing is OK at MOB, though it shouldn't be like this!), etc. Most won't drop by and make a post here while they are still angry like I did, but I bet they will do the same thing I said I would. Stop playing Smolensk. I mean, why would anyone play German knowing this is what can happen, that for literally 2-3 minutes you could end up being killed instantly upon spawn and unable to do anything? I was having a good game, then died a dozen straight time or more without a chance to move. Buddy had his "timing" right, so that was it. Well, fuck that! Really.

If everyone is happy with a map with that totally retarded gun in the German spawn area that can end the game if one player gets on it, so be it. If people don't think there's a need to edit the map or enable 2 second spawn protection, fine I guess. But, guess what. Canuck's right. This map is fatally flawed, and all Slyk's work is going to go down the tubes because of it. Smolensk needs to be near full to be fun as it is...it's going to be less and less full as more people get the "experience" I got tonight. 12+ straight deaths without a chance to move and game loss because of one player who knows to shoot ever 10 seconds on the useless German gun. Well, useless to German that is. This maps going to die unles it changes. I said my peace. See ya in Barbarossa exculisvely guys, unless Smolensk's fatal flaw is fixed.

My recommendation is to COMMUNICATE with your fellow Germans BEFORE the spawnkillers can move into position. Scrapyard has said it best, Smolensk requires everyone to pay attention to defense. If you ignore your flanks, and especially the German 3 after it has gone down, you are only inviting the Ruskies to enter the base and spawnkill the game away.

Too bad we can't simply remove the door on the Pak side. That would be a partial fix.

no, he is right...this is a really bad choice defence and offence aside. So they looked long and hard and put a ton of time in this map, this is a bad choice of placement period.





On the other hand, "again like him" you can simply refuse to play the map. I second that choice...peace all.

This happened to me last week, my team communicated with another and we all went to Spectate at the same time. biggrin.gif Through the other team for loop. If the server is set to auto-balance, half the Russian team will be moved to German. I know it's not a "fix" but it's an option to control the rapage. It's no fun to play when you are just spawning and dying at the same time.

I'll chime in again on this point. Contrary to some opinions here, I'm sorry but that spawn massacring gun NEEDS to be dealt with. Like others, I like a fair game but some of you think its not a very big deal- unless you've fallen prey to the utter slaughter 1] you can't brush it off as something to live with or see as avoidable with super team tactics. 2] not feel sorry for those who aren't use to spawn massacres. 3] See how very discouraging it is to those playing for the first time in CoD or in MoB servers.
That gun massacres fast and furious much like a napoleonic cannon spewing out double canister shot point blank into closely packed infantry formations.
Please deal with it... it's the only serious blemish on that excellent map. Reminds me of the spawn killing potential by the AT guns on Barbarossa 1 in its early days- remember the put off that was- but that wasn't nearly as bad as this situation.

Yes...I said I had given my last word, but I have to add a couple points. It isn't fair to simply say "defend your spawn". Russians don't have a horrible point of weakness like this. THey defend three bases. Germans have to defend three based PLUS defend a spawn exploit that will totally ruin the game if they let it be exploited just once! Look at that 112 kill streak. 5 people every 10 seconds...over 2 minutes he did that and his team planted our two hardest german bases for the win. To me, this would be no differnet than constructing a map when you could plant and blow up the German bases in half the time than Russian bases, and then trying to argue, "hey them's the breaks". Well, indeed they are. And with breaks like that, people will stop playing.

Frankly, my main point would be this. Address in now, because you'll have to address it at some point. I read posts about this exploit before, but once you become the victim of it, it really hits home. A good, even game ruined by a ridiculously placed gun. Why wait until half the people leave this map to never come back (because they don't watch the forums..they just play), before you address it? Otherwise, the way you'll probably be addressing it is going back to 2 Barbarbossa servers, and Smolensk will be in the dumpster.

I realize I don't know how to reprogram this, but it's your servers, and I figure you want them to be successful. Now I wonder if I'll be moving on to another game soon if Barbarossa is always full as everyone flocks away from the Smolensk map, and I'm not playin Smolensk, even as Russian. I don't want to win games with that tactic. Also, I don't want to have to flip into spectate mode, which while very smart of the person who thought of it, it is basically just a method of fighting fire with fire. That is, trying to ruin the Russians players game experience in the same way they are ruining the Germans. Is this really the way it is going to be?

In other words, beg Slyk to make a fix. He may have said he was done, but does he really want to see his great map exploited and eventually ruined?

Everyone please keep in mind, right now there is nothing we can do to remove the gun.
For right now Smolensk is playing in Conquest mode, as the gun doesn't seem to be as big as a problem in CNQ.
Also as a change we are now running CNQ in "campaign mode", which means the attackers switch sides.
Lets see how it goes.

... and a most thoughtful response. I've seen a number of great servers die a quick death because of simple issues like changing an IP address, or unrestrained TKers. Both FHZ and <1stAD> had rockin' BA servers until they simply changed IP addresses. They never regained their core group of players (most of whom are now on MOB) because most players NEVER visit the forums.

You are all right when you say, that "communication" isn't the solution. The solution has to be in fixing the map. Scrapyard, perhaps there is a way to simply change the elevation of the Pak gun to lower it into the dirt.

Trust me, if I can get the code working to move those pak guns around, it'll be fixed. (Moving the gun downward to the bottom of the map works, as does simply moving it elsewhere in the german spawn area during BAS play.)
