What's in a name? Well, for starters I now realize that I chose a difficult handle to represent me in the gaming world. Sabot? What the Hell is a Sabot? Is it some sort of cheat?(bot) Why would any moron name himself after a cheat? How the Hell do you pronounce it anyway? Sounds stupid to me any way you say it!! What a loser!! LOL
So, I thought I'd share what I know about a Sabot here and for those of you out there that are more knowledgeable on the subject than me please feel free to correct/add to this thread as you see fit. First of all, the word Sabot is, for all intents and purposes here, is pronounced " SAY-BOW ", the "T" is silent. The Sabot is one of three main gun tank rounds (the other two, APERS or Anti-Personnel, and HEAT commonly known as High Explosive Anti-Tank) that are employed by the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. The Sabot round is used primarily against enemy armor and, once fired, travels at a speed of roughly 1,750 meters per second. I've attatched a little something I found on the net that describes the damage a sabot can inflict better than I could say it, so I hope you enjoy. You guys please continue to call me Sab, or use your own interpretation of the name, I certainly don't mind! Whatever you call me in the game is fine, as I have been called worse, I'm sure!! LOL Besides, I had little choice in selecting my name, as there weren't any good ones left after you guys picked yours! Thanks for enduring my presence. CYA in the server!! )--S@B0T--> |

I think the original sabot was from back in the early cannon days. I think originally it was an giant arrow shot from a cannon. I could be wrong about that one, tho.

I think the original sabot was from back in the early cannon days. I think originally it was an giant arrow shot from a cannon. I could be wrong about that one, tho. Actually, you are correct sir. Without directly mentioning the "Sabot" I found this piece of info describing that very thing. In the year; 1326 Council of Florence directed the manufacture of metal cannon and bullets (pilas seu pallectas ferreas et canones de metallo). Considered by many to be the first 'indisputable' record of such items. The image of a pot-de-fer gun, that shot an arrow-like bolt, was in a manuscript (by Walter de Milemete) presented to Edward III on his accession to the throne of England. The arrow had to have a way to hold the muzzle pressure when being launched, no doubt incorporating some sort of sabot. Found that at: http://xenophongroup.com/montjoie/gp_wpns.htm It's a great name and I especially like your creative employ of the surrounding characters! More info for the curious here. Thanks HammaTime!! I like Wikipedia too! Great Info fast. This post has been edited by )--S@B0T-->: 03/26/06 2:00am |

Thanks HammaTime!! I like Wikipedia too! Great Info fast. I was robbed!!! LOL! Since you expresesed some knowledge of the current use of a sabo, I actually edidted my first response that spelled out how a sabot is actually the thing that holds the small "arrow-like" anti-tank round in the muzzle. Of course the sabot flies apart after leaving the muzzle leaving the actual anti-tank munition to fly on its way. D'oh! I thought that part was obvious!!! LOL!
