Well, you did ask for our input FK about the maps, and this is mine just in my humble opinion. I know many may not agree with me, and I hope they will give their input as well.
First off tho, map pack 12 sucks. Sorry, I know you put work in it, but with the exception of Tractorworks, it sux. Too bad Tractor had lag issues. Seems a lot of great maps get shit-canned for faulty issues, and that really is too bad. Now for the lists......... GREAT MAPS: Abbey, Angry Fields, Bunker, Carentan, Crossroads, Island Assault, Market Garden, Doomed, Ft. Wreck, Frag n' Rock, Ardennes, Verschneit, Tractorworks, Destroyed Village, Omaha Beach, Algiers, Druckkamern, Malta, Flughafen, Gewitter, Thunder II, Winterschlaf, Tunisian, Renan, and Berlin. SO-SO MAPS: Osiedle, Arnhem, Berlin v. 1, Southern France, Bahnhof, Remagen, Snowy Park, Stalingrad, Holland, Stadt, and OpCenter. SUCK-ASS MAPS: Geffangenenlager, Bloody Snow, Courtyard, Secret Weapons Facility, Bazaar, Riverside, Rush Party, Tirtagen, Storage Facility, Titleist, and Walk inthe Park. Sorry if I've offended anyone, but input was asked for, and I hope others put their input in as well. To keep the server strong, it's always appealed to me that the maps never get kept too long in rotation to keep them fresh. That way peeps don't get burned out on them too much. Plus, new maps are always the big attraction which keep me coming back as well as the gameplay. I know some of the above maps aren't TDM, just not sure which totally. Plus, I know there are other issues which keep maps out of play. Someone on here, and it was Chaplin I believe, posted a link to some maps that looked really kewl, especially one called Canal. Maybe that might bear some looking into. Again, this is just my 2-cents which adds up to diddly-squat, and I do appreciate all the work it takes to bring us these maps. |

Hey Fk,
Here's the link, though I think you already check these guys out: Maps One of my all time favourite maps, which I 'd give my left testicle to play again, is called Small Town Lots of good maps here, and it tells you if they are laggy or not. Some good screenshots as well. -=Chaplin=- -------------------- ![]() ___________________________________ "I told the priest don't count on any second coming / God got his assed kicked the first time he came down here slumming." - Concrete Blonde |

I've sung your praises before, FK...so I'm gonna carp just a little!
The Crossraods and Algiers...both of those maps, while by no means sterling, were MUCH better in their original form than in the remake. The Crossroads has had many of it's better features blocked (like the upper story sniper's nests), places that were good and meaningful bottlenecks have been circumvented (with the ubiquitous stacks of boxes), and it's effectively been made into one of the small "box" maps by the overuse of heavy fog. Might as well play in a single house. Algiers...well, what can I say. The "catwalk" barbwire that runs around the map makes me feel like I'm playing in some sort of space FPS. Perhaps if we all had jetpacks it would be appropriate. But it loses all WWII sim appeal for me to see someone floating 12 feet in the air. Just my $0.02. What say all of you? FathrerMurphy |

Good feedback.... keep the comments coming. This is exactly what I am looking for. As for pack 12 I know it's not one of the classics but I was really trying to get Tractor works out. The new maps are in a lull right now and many guys are working on some but it seems like forever since a batch of good new ones has really come out. I am going to keep working on it though so in the mean time keep letting me know.

Just about agree on all the above. I do LOVE the Destroied village...just seems more ...more....umptyfrat.....ya know? Needs to be a bit larger though. Good places to hid, good long range firing and such.

Gotta disagree with the good Father on this one. I love what you do to the old maps. Sometimes it takes a little getting used to, but I like having to play an old map in a new way. Though all the wire is a little unorthodox in Algiers, I like how it adds a whole upper level of play, adding a totally new and unexpected element to the gameplay. Again with Crossroads (IMHO one of the better original maps), I like the way it feels a little more claustrophobic, though I admit I was supriised to see the upper doors blocked. Thanks for the novelty.

Might be crazy for saying this but, I kinda would like to see more of the old-shool maps re-done with like added features, make them just a bit bigger, and more rooms you can access. Kinda like the newer Algiers and S.France. Destroyed Village would be cool as hell fixed up like that. Plus, everybody knows the old-school maps run very good.

Hang on to that thought. I am working on Destroyed Village as we speak and it should be done soon. Remagen will be after that although it is in the concept stage right now.
As for Father Murphy's comments I know your taste in maps and I knew you as well as some others would not like them. My goal in these map reworks is to accomplish several things as it relates to gameplay. 1) Remove as many "bottlenecks" or choke points as possible. I think a really great map has a multitude of access points. 2) Add elements, if possible that make for new attack strategies. 3) Make every effort to make the changes appear as natural as possible. 4) Enhance the speed of gameplay, or in FK lingo take away a snipers ability to control a map. Now I know some of you guys favor the slower hide and seek gameplay, and some of you are great snipers. But the truth is I am not a fan of snipers, and you guys will be constantly harping on ne about that. I will atempt to interject some modicum of symphathy for you guys in the future (heck I may even open up the windows in Crossroads again) but don't expect much. I know thse schanges will not sit well with everyone nor will every map. That is why the rotation has 17 maps, and cycles every few days. |

I have to agree with FatherMurphy on Crossroads and Algiers, original is better.
If you eliminated the boulders in the river in Crossroads and some of the barbed-wire in Algiers that would be acceptable. Spawn points change too quickly and that is a pain in the ass on both maps. I spawned in a group of Allies the other day and didn't stand a chance. However, it does eliminate a lot of camping. Berlin is just too laggy on any server. Tirtagen is too cramped. Walk in the Park is too green and the textures aren't too good for some graphics cards. I like Malta and size is strong point with all MOB maps. FK, you might want to make a map pack with just big maps for those players who like the wide, open spaces. I like Map Pack 13, good choice of rotation. Bloody Snow is a little over the top with too many barriers around the props. Have to sterp out to shoot around some of the boulders and sandbags. Have this same problem in Angry Fields with the haystacks. I LOVE SNOWY PARK!!!!!!!! Damn the snipers. This is a great head to head map and one that has no advantage for either side and it runs great on any machine. This is a thinking man's map because there are so many ways to play it. |
