I'd really like to make my own and not burden anyone.

I don't think it burdens anyone. It's fun to make these things.

The easiest thing I can tell you is to run a search and type in ----How to make sigs----- This is one that I found
http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=17629

research is the key as time goes by you will learn and things get a little easier

My favorite site for learning is www.pixel2life.com

Just click on the link for Photoshop and choose your subcategory or view the randon PS tutorials. Most are easy walk through ones and you'll pick up your talent level quickly.

my favorite way is just being experimental and trying lots of different things on my own, but thay may be why i am no good. lol

Experimenting is the fun part and I learned PS that way. The one thing that's cool about tutorials and actually learning is that you pick up all the shortcuts and processes that makes using the application more fun and at some points easier.

The best way to learn something is Undo.
