I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Flash Professional 8 to create the sigs. I did Cross's too, but the real artists here are LOM and Pez.

Hey Trooper,

You could try gimp. It is available for Linux, Windows, and os X. Although for os X you need to have X windows installed and working on your mac. I don't remember what kind of machine you have.

Go through this list here trooper;
http://www.download.com/3101-10247-0-1.html?tag=pop
Read the user reviews for each product.... many tools here are cheaper than dreamweaver and photoshop and some will even do a very good job. Just check the reviews thoroughly. Many of the tools in the list have free-trial periods to be familiar with them also-a good way to get started properly.

I'd also recommend going onlne to browse thru the zillions of sites that have tutorials regarding html/css coding, flash files, wysiwyg programs. Takes a little while to be familiar with all this, but its very interesting. The Coffee Time software in the list seems to be well liked by many for years.

Try Paint Shop Pro.

http://www.jasc.com

You can download a free trial version.

I find it easy to use.
