32 people are dead including the gunman. This is the biggest shooting in US history. Here's the story from Fox:

What a tragedy! Why do they sell arms to all kind of people. Arms induce death and tragedy to the humankind, family lose their dear ones, they can't be replace. God be with their family, and i think we all should pray for the family who lost their child. sad.gif

I'm surprised that schools havn't up'd security, I mean The Colombine shooting a few months ago was evidence enough that it might happen again. I mean Couldn't these Universities and High school and even middle schools have Metal detectors and have More than just security guards around who ask if you are skipping class?

A few weeks ago at my school, "G. Holmes Braddock Senior High" Some random guy came into the school and tried to Stab some kid. The kid was smart enough to run away, and the guy was eventually caught by School police in the area at the time and sentenced to 2 yrs in Juvie. We were later told that The kid actually got himself into a fight with this kid and had lost humiliatingly. He wanted revenge and just ran in at lunch to get it.

I mean Just having a simple Metal Inspection might not solve everything but well, It might reduce these accidents and stuff.

The weird thing about this shooting was that the guy came early and shot 2 people and left...2 hours later he came and shot 30 more Including himself. Why didn't the school just cancel classes? huh.gif

Either way this is some really messed up stuff. unsure.gif

Even if he obtained the firearm legally, which I doubt very much that he did, he would have gotten his hands on a gun somehow. It doesn't matter how many laws you make against having a gun, if someone wants to shoot someone, they will find a gun.

I'll be damned if I would go to a university with metal detectors all over campus. I pay enough for tuition already without them upping the cost because of the very very small chance that at the specific time I am on campus someone is going to go on a killing spree. Don't get me wrong, I feel for the friends and families of the kids that were murdered in this tragic event, but the chance of this happening to you or me is very slim.

Security at universities is especially difficult. There are so many buildings and so much ground to cover, especially at big schools like Virignia Tech. Having security checkpoints in every single building would be impractical. In reality, a big campus has to operate like a small town with its own police force. Of course, most university police forces can't do a lot to prevent or deal with issues like this.

If we are going to worry about an item that kills people every day en masse lets ban tobacco. It kills and wounds millions more than a gun ever could. All laws really do is keep honest people honest. The wacko's who do this crap are going to do it with a gun, a knife, or a wet noodle if that's what it takes. They are just messed up. A tragedy like this is going to happen every few years like it or not. We just pray instead of hundreds or thousands that they are stopped early and loss is minimized. I have a closet full of guns and havent shot anyone.... YET.

Junkie
