Two years ago today, this tiny dog lost everything in New Orleans, during the Katrina hurricane.
![]() A couple of months later, he was rescued, starving, begging for handouts, caked with dried mud and crud, and nearly eaten alive by insects of all sorts. He wound up in a Houston animal shelter. We saw his photo, fell in love, and trekked over to adopt him. We spent the first year he was with us combing the internet, searching for his owner(s), if still alive, to no avail. We named him Lucky Louie, "Lucky" because he made it out alive and into a good home, and "Louie" is short for Louisiana, his former state. He's such a lovable little fella, that I know that if his owners made it through the hurricane, they must still grieve the loss of him. And on today, the 2nd anniversary of the hurricane, our hearts go out to them. -------------------- [img][/img]

Lucky Louie seems to be half-eskimo, half-corgi. He looks like an eskie, but is really little with very short legs. And yes, GIJOE, just like your Sweetie, he follows me everywhere I go around the house. The only trouble is that our other boy dog, Elvis, a golden retriever mix, doesn't seem to like Louie, so we have to pay close attention when they are near each other.

Jan,
What a wonderful thing you did. You have such a big heart. We didn't quite do the same, but we were going to look for a puppy for the kids, and found mixbreed and she(Buffy) was hiding in the corner of a big box along with her sibbling's and had such a sad face on her and scared too.So that was the one we picked out. The pups weren't weaned yet but people said that the mother had gotten into rat poison and we had better come after the pup. Long story short. Buffy turned out to be the best dog we ever had (almost)( We had two other's after her.) You could spell a name of one her toys and she know which one to go and get and very protective of us . We had her for 10 wonderful years and lost her to a brain tumor. I'm happy Lucky has found a very good home. Ci.Ci. -------------------- Silence "I KILL YOU" :-) |

Steel, in my own personal opinion?
YOU ROCK! I have countless friends and family that were affected by that %$#^ Katrina. One of my cousins in Mississippi came home afterwards to find out all he head left was a driveway. There was absolutely no sign of his 2-story 3 car garage house anywhere. His Father lost the entire bottom floor of his house, but the structure held up. They were living in a tent for I dont know how long.I could go on with the stories I know, but instead I'll say thanks for what you did.I wish everyone else was as noble as you. |

That's an excellent story. I'm a huge lover of dogs and love to hear of them being saved. Big believer in adoption, as I have for the last 3 dogs of I've owned. My last adoption is Penny, who's 17 yrs old.
Hope they'll learn to get along with each other! This post has been edited by Sir Ace: 09/01/07 2:30am -------------------- COD4 might be fun, But not as fun as a full forest :) |
