Cause I have to say that COD 4 is really just COD 2 with modern weapons!!! Maybe its just me. I haven't played it but watched a really long demo and I was waiting for someone to say that, because it looks like it is. Roughly the same game types I think, same health system, etc. No vehicles and no base assult (which is why many of us are still playing COD:UO and never went to COD2). So, you get modern weapons (which we have already on UO, lol) much much better graphics, and the "role-playing" system for building yourself up. So basically the role-playing system is what is truly new. Anyway, my impressions as a casual observer, would love to hear more from people actually playing it. -------------------- ![]() |

To me it doesn't really play like COD2... but no it does not have vehicles and I'm guessing it will not. It is a first person shooter so yes you run around and shoot people. I'm not really sure what some people expect. The wheel is round no matter how many times they remake it..... It is quite a bit more complicated than COD2 to me. The maps are more complex etc. throw in the variety of weapons, perks, etc. and it makes for some interesting play. It seems to be one of the better FPS I've seen but it is and will be a FPS.

The gameplay has changed. It just feels different.
One thing that does bother me though is that out of the 3 maps I've played so far none of them have been good. at all. The ship one is horrible and the one where it's basically the single player demo level (at the end defending the helicopter) blows. -------------------- ![]() {MOB}... If you compare it to some of the other modern FPS games during
the past year like BF2, GR2 and AW2, it really doesn't make the grade as they all have 1. Larger Maps 2. Use all Vehicles 3. Have the same or BETTER weapons-type playing. 4. Better color & graphics. I have just seen a demo of the new Crysis game due out soon. Even though the monster stuff in it really turns me off, I have to admit that the graphical ability of the men, weapons and landscape is light-years ahead of the COD4 stuff. Watch the demo and you will see what i mean. If Crysis could be modded to be historical realistic, It would be MY choice in a truly advanced FPS game.... JIM -------------------- |

And I can understand your point. I'm not so sure that I am to fond of the perk system either. When you are a newbie on a server with some veterans you can have a tough time on UO or CoD2, but on on CoD4 the veterans have better premises because of the perks, and make it even more difficult to be a newbie. Anyway, I'm not putting it on the shelf yet. btw - I couldn't get on any of our CoD4-servers today. When trying to log on the counter got to 10 - 11, and then I got a message that it had timed out. Does anyone know what this problems is about? -------------------- ![]() ![]() Team Barbarossa |

I never did the COD 2 thing. I picked 4 up today and was on for a while tonight. It is a CLEAR representation of Battlefield to me... Cumulative ranks, unlocks, satelite,,.... Still fun though.

Does anyone know what this problems is about? You know what I wish? I wish the "perks" were things that helped your teammates. For example, as you move up you become a "leader" and friendly players around you would receive benefits. That would encourage people to play in groups as grouping with a "leader" benefits all, and doesn't leave noobie's at a disadvantage when they come in the game facing vets. They just have to try and find a vet to hang out with! -------------------- ![]() |

The perks and ranks are not such a huge advantage that a new person can't play and enjoy the game. Each perk has it's own benefit and you can only pick one from each catagory. Everyone has a selection of perks but you do have more options as you gain rank. You accumulate enough points to increase rank in a matter of a few hours playing anyway so it's not like you are going to be a million miles behind for long. However, as you progress it does seem to be more difficult to increase in rank. My guess is that competitive play is going to be without most of the perks etc. anyway. Or at least have ladders with and some without. I think that team play is going to be much more important in COD4 than it was in COD2. For TDM anyway. Can't wait to get enough play in to start working on this with some of the guys. Should be fun.

The perks don't have a great deal of influence on your play as many may think. Shadow had the game a few hours and was at the top of each game he played in points. He had not even created a class of weapons yet. It has a lot to do with gaming skill.
Yesterday Cross had me try out a server with friendly fire on, wow... I played for awhile thinking it would help with TWL.. but when you're playing with a large number of people who don't work as a team, you end up getting killed with friendly fire a lot. It will be interesting to see how TWL works with this. -------------------- ![]() Signature designed by Old Man Mike Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. ![]() |

The large maps are really good. Some of the stuff like the movable objects are a waste, I would have rather had them put the effort into bigger maps. A UO version with humvees and mounted machine guns on a map like Tuchola would be awesome.
The airstrikes need to go away also they dont add anything in my opinion. -------------------- No one here gets out alive. ![]() |

im a big fan of the gameplay not a fan of the helicopter and airstrikes . the players are much bigger than cod2 ,i had alot of problems seeing long distances in cod2. theres alot more recoil in the weapons as well and if you dont use short bursts youll lose sight of the enemy. the perks are cool but except for the last stand option or camo suit ,it doesnt effect you much. its a good game and im actually liking the hq and s&d gameplay alooooot better then previous games, good job iw !
tbn theres another post about logging on-pull down console and type connect then ip if your getting the timeout crap! anyone figure out the black stuff yet?? -------------------- ![]() |

I never bothered with COD2, so I cant compare it. But I do like this game. I thought even the single player was pretty cool, although your AI teammates are maybe toooo smart - they seem to steal all my kills lol. Online, the perks are good, not overpowering at all. Just a 'perk' or 'benefit' from achieving a certain level which is fair.
Mind you, I'm playing this on PS3... so it's probably a bit different from the PC version. I dont play many FPS on my PS3 because the controls are a pain compared to PC, but COD4 has me hooked... wich I could run it on my PC tho so I could have fun with yalll. -------------------- ![]() |
