Once again, it comes down to great team work and excellent leadership. With all these wins we should be in #1!!!

Great teamwork!!
My favorite part was when P and I were guarding our 1 in the waning minutes of the game. We both heard a lot of chatter about an attack on our 3. I signaled to P that I could cover the 1 and he could slide towards our 3. Like an idiot, I position myself in P's old defensive spot but I keep looking over P's shoulder as he fires on a tank approaching our 3. I couldn't resist and turned my turret to lob a shell towards the tank driver as he ran from the burning hulk. Someone calls out, "they are planting our 1!" The next thing I heard was P simply saying "Dave." But he said it by dropping the tonal range of that one syllable from high to low, the way you subtly let a child know you are disappointed that they've stolen a cookie from the cookie jar. "Daaaavvvveeeee." In this case, it meant, you told us you were going to do something, and you didn't. You'd better fix it, now! I laughed and turned towards our One where, thanks to P's excellent cover, I was able to make amends for my transgression by killing the guy and defusing the bomb. This moment made me think about why we all enjoy playing this game together so much. We get to know how each of us reacts in a given situation. P knew that usually if I say I have something covered, it's covered. But he also said in that one syllable, "I have you covered, but you'd better not fuck up." With that one syllable, I knew I could stop my tank where it would provide small shadow of cover, but that cover would be just big enough to give me time to pop a satchel, before P was in a spot where he could protect me from anything that might come around the tank. I thought about that moment last night as I watched "Home of the Brave," where a young, dumb and full of cum soldier chases down two men who had attacked his convoy. He charges after them and screams every time he is about to discharge his weapon, and keeps screaming as he fires wildly. He then makes what would be his final mistake, he claims he "thinks" he shot the attacker and he races to the spot in a graveyard where he obviously "thought" the body would be. He ignores all measure of common sense and exposes himself to a myriad of potential firing angles as he runs down row upon row of tombs only to discover no body and no blood. Before he has time to say "oops," he is gunned down from behind and the attacker flees. My point here is really about training. That young Hollywood soldier clearly needed a lot more training, but I could use some as well. I allowed myself to be distracted by calls for help from my teammates and, despite communicating directly with P about which one of us could best offer that help, I messed up. And that gets me to my final point, we have a terrific team and we continually learn how to be better! Nothing is more fun than that! |
