I used to spend endless hours on the 24/7 Cassino server, but if traffic is low and it needs to be closed then so be it. The server had a good run at least laugh.gif

There is no firm decision yet to close any server.
Initially, closing one of the Barb servers was the obvious answer,
As it would allow us to offer the widest range of games.
This was before finding out a new version of Barb was about to be release.

Cassino right now is the slowest of all our servers.
I'm not fond of the idea of closing cassino, even though I don't play on it so it doesn't effect me.

If there was enough support for a Cassino server, one option would be to
rent one just for the people who only play Cassino.
There has been several people saying don't close it but are there enough who would
be willing to cover the cost of running a seperate one?
Between 10 people it would only cost $5-$6/month

I will put in my vote, if it helps, to keep the Cassino server. My team has had it's own servers since MOH and as of the past 6 months I pretty much play your Cassino server exclusively when I can. Part of it is I'm just getting sick of Revolt, I'm not a big fan of CoD2, and ofcourse the great competition and friendly people on your Cassino server.

I'm already financing servers for my own team, but might be willing to help out to keep the MOB Cassino server up. Have you checked out www.escapedturkey.com at all? It's $25 a month for 35 slots. We've run a few servers through them in the past and they are cool guys.

I also have a question about the Cassino server. Is it run on a box with other servers that are busy/full? It's been really laggy lately... more than usual. Not a complaint, just a question. biggrin.gif

Cassino and RhineValley were always laggy maps, all the way back to when UO was released. (Just a random note.)

Those are impressive prices over at EscapedTurkey. The best price I had seen for a UO server was $2/slot and they're below $1/slot.

They are cheap because of one reason, they expect only seasoned server admins to sign up. They don't offer much amateur support although there are FAQs and forums available. You get the server and a really sweet control panel which allows you to create seperate startup lines, so you can run Cassino 24/7 and in 3 minutes, have the server restarted with a different setup. It worked very well for us since we were changing up our stuff alot. Also, you can load and unload games from their game list... so if you decided you wanted to run HL2 one day on it, then CoD:UO, then CoD2, then BF2.. it's all a click of a button then editing the config. Pretty cool.

Don't get rid of Cassino, it's still active just not as much as others. Same people all the time. Great and fun to the end. It would be a shame to see it go, it's one of the few reasons i still play COD and not Battlefield 2 all the time, or in other cases get sucked back into WoW =( anyways don't close it please.

Edit: I would like to donate for a server but I don't have a credit card

Cassino is a nice change of pace from bases. Lags up alot though at times...I'm not sure if its occuring when alot more players are on.... seems my fps are higher when about 16 or less players are on. Would reducing the max. number of players be a good compromise. Seems worth keeping as there's a loyal following for that server. Paypal is another option for donations btw, for those curious on various ways of donating.

The reason escaped turkey is so cheap is they use the Cogent network.
You won't find any reputable game server hosting company using Cogent.
Even worse escaped turkey doesn't have more than 1 data pipe supplying their datacenter.
Cogent is fine for things like web, VOIP where latency isn't critical but in gaming where latency is death, cogent is the single worse provider while being the cheapest.
Cogent has improved somewhat over the last year or so but they are still far from being a teir 1 provider.
Here is a short list of there problems
2003 went into chapter11 because they couldn't pay their bills to cisco
2005 Shut-off their peer connection to level3, causing all types of problems
This year alone their stock price dropped from $25+ to $5/share, they are in trouble even after overselling their bandwidth to raise money.

BTW escaped turkey just annouced they will be offering a premium service
$35/month is you want to use a real pier1 backbone versus the POS cogent
From their own page.
Why is Premium better?
Premium (Internap) is hooked up to multiple backbones, whereas the Standard bandwidth is hooked up to one backbone. If your local ISP is connected to a backbone that isn't the same as standard it will be forced to peer the connection. Peering can cause routes to fluctuate, ping times to go higher, and you will encounter more hops in a route. Premium (Internap) is connected to all the major backbones so you will more likely get a route with fewer hops, lower pings, and less or no fluctuation.

Even at $35 the only way escaped turkey will make money is either buy hosting lots of empty unused servers or overselling every machine to the point the cpu chokes.

i don't really think a lot of guys know how much the regulars of Cassino like it. we pretty much play it daily, and we all are friends with eachother. and since just about all of us are good there, the games are always exciting. my CoD playing would drastically lower if it was shut down, barb's get boring & very repititve in a short time for me (not to mention drawn out).

i can't stress to you guys enough how much i want you to keep cassino running.
i won't bug you guys anymore about it, though.
