Perhaps someone can help me out with a problem I've been experiencing? Every time I get to the Frag-O-Rock map, things don't run smoothly anymore. The play is choppy and every time I go to move or turn, everything freezes for a couple of seconds (that's when I inevitably get killed). This doesn't happen on any other map. Has any one else experienced this? Is there a patch? Is there a cure? Please help me , Doctor!

You're not alone, Sgt. Fury!

I've heard more reports of choppy, lag-ridden play on that map than anywhere else. I actually never had a problem there until last night, when there was a full 20-player compliment. I thought I was having mini-strokes or sumptin'! The difference was quite palpable. I'd shoot at people, see a half clip contact, and then they'd be..well...just GONE, 'mano. Was very frustrating.

However, if what you write is indeed true and not just slight hyperbolye, a COUPLE OF SECONDS is a LONG delay...perhaps indicating a problem on your side.

Things you might check out or do if you suspect that could be true:

1) Defrag your harddrive. Just the one the game is installed in, if you have yours multiply partitioned like mine. I use Norton Utilities myself, because it allows you to place your swap file in the fastest sector of the drive. It also prioritizes your most frequently used applications, which, if you're like me, is MOHAAS of course. With all the deleting and re-installing we've done to make the sv_pure grade, things might be really fragmented. Norton Utilities can be bought, so it'd be unethical for me to tell you that you could just download a bootlegged copy through a peer-to-peer program like Kazaa!

2) Check out CACHEMAN, a downloadable utility that lets you play around with a lot of virtual memory and cache options. It comes with several presets, one of which is for gaming optimization. Different versions of Windoze are famous for eating as much memory as they can, leaving less for your applications. Under RAM settings there's a switch for "Conservative Swap File Usage", which may help you out if those delays are caused by your comp hitting the swap file at an inopertune time.

3) Raid your wife's purse (a convienant time to do this is while your getting ready for work and she's still sleeping, at least at my house) and install some more memory.

4) Get thee hence to one of those online broadband test sites and test out the throughput and speed of your connection. Most of them have tips for making your connection better if you get a low score on their test.

5) As a drastic measure, look for opportunities to get someone to smash into your car where they'll be at fault. Make sure you feign neckpain and double vision. Seek damages for pain and suffering, and then get a really skookum new computer!

Use as little detail as you can even if you have to go down in resolution.

ACK!

I can barely spot the 420 boys on max res as it is...just before the muzzle flash!

It IS cool that the game allows you to do that on the fly...I'll have to try it.
