The Tuchola forest server seems to be a hit, lots of fun with new people. I sugest we restart the server stats as they mainly show the Smolensk people, with their pak-spawnkills.

The Cuda dad loved the map, it's realism, the great hiding spots...Bob, our hats are off to you for all your great work.
I like Feezy's idea regarding the stats, I concur. Just wondering if we are still in the test stage?? Alot of the people come to our Maps because of the stats, lets use what we can to keep them coming back. -------------------- ![]() Signature designed by Old Man Mike Never take life seriously. http://8.9.4.75/Barb2_7day_stats/stat_score.html The weekly stats are somewhat accurate as nobody had played on the server in the past week (prior to Tuchola getting loaded). We've had 450 players come and check out the map in the past 2 days. Around 220 played for at least 2 rounds. We definitely have a few addicts: 420always - 21 rounds {MOB}HammaTime - 21 rounds {MOB}Cross of Iron - 20 rounds ruserious - 19 rounds DsFire - 19 rounds Bagger - 18 rounds {BHC}Spc.Brass Monkey - 18 rounds -------------------- |

Best guess, North Poland... maybe...
Back when I started designing the map, my core idea was a winter forest map that used the AHz tanks, including the Jagdpanther. Beyond that, I really didn't care much about the historical context and it was mainly so that there would be another map out there that takes advantage of the 56MB AHz vehicle pack. Something slightly larger then Barbarossa and hopefully it would appeal to folks who liked Barbarossa. I absolutely required the vehicle variety in the AHz vehicle pack as well. The combination of light tanks, medium tanks, heavy tanks, mortars and the two types of pak guns make for a much more interesting game then the generic tanks of the stock CoD:UO. Plus, the heavy tanks in stock CoD:UO are *slow* and would've required heavy mod'ing. The initial name was quite simply "Winter Map". Towards the end of internal development and the start of Alpha testing, I started researching into the war. I found out that: - The Jagdpanther wasn't produced until late 1944 and wasn't even deployed until Dec 1944. - In Jan/Feb 1945, Russians began to push the Germans back towards the Ober river before holding for a month or two prior to the final push towards Berlin. - Looking at the maps, this basically meant combat would've been in West Russia, Poland, Austria (maybe a few other spots). Finally, I stumbled across the simple fact that Tuchola Forest is a pine/spruce forest. It was an easy name, clearly recognizable and not used by any other mapping project. The Russians might've come through their while pushing the Germans west towards the Ober river. It was also the right time period, but mostly it's a pine/spruce forest (which is the only models I have to work with). (Map making is the art of compromises as your design impacts with reality.) -------------------- |

glad to see you looked into the historical aspect on thwe maps you created. For someone who really enjoys history as well, it makes the game all the better. Thanks for your hard work and also I am really enjoying the beta 3 version

poland Bob just to say again that the map is superb. As a WW2 nut love the histotical side. Been reading about 1944-45 period and just back from week in Berlin so all very topical. I would throw in the 1945 Battle of Halbe as a possible map site. It was the scene of a real blood bath battle as 100,000 Germans were caught in the forest (SW of Berlin) trying to escape the Russians. In the forest the Russians fired at the top of the trees so that they shattered sending wooden splinters flying everywhere causing death and mayhem. Anybody going to Berlin should head out East where you can still see the bullet/shell marks on the older buildings. Anyway great map thanks to your hard work and dedication. |
