Friend of mine with high speed DSL called the phone company to complain about high pings. They came by and connected his phone line to a different circuit to fix the problem. Apparently some connections that are fine for phone service are crappy fot DSL. This might be the problem if your ping is pretty consistently higher than it should be. And you use DSL.

Hey Bounds,

Try the free version of this program to isolate a network or internet connection problem:

Could be too much p0rn.

I'm serious. Spyware etc. that you can get from sites that contain 'unsavory' items (i.e. torrents, porn, illegal downloads) could really fuck up your computer. I had this happen a few times after downloading torrents...try a system restore back to a date where you know your COD functioned correctly.

Also, try the link Undead posted and if it's slower than you usually have call up your cable company and yell at them.

First> Actually a good idea to tell us what your computer specs are and the type of connection you have.

If you have a PC, check your system tray area and make sure you only have essentials running in the backround, ie- no MSN messenger or no non-anti virus application that checks online for updates. I try to remember to keep Windows Updates set to 'notify only' while I play.

You should have onboard your computer these 3 things running while you surf online for fairly good defences against spyware/adware/malware.
1] Spybot. 2] Adaware. 3] Spywareblaster. Google them up. they all have free versions

My PC is kinda outdated [2.2ghz/256ram/ati9200card] but I manage a good ping 50-60 -generally, but lately I'm getting lots of lag anyway which leads me to believe some application is running in the background or its my annoying Norton's updating. You can improve things with lots of ram/better vid card of course but some folks like me crank down our game settings in favour of playability like; 800x600 screen/ sound settings very low/ most effects are set to off like bullet casings/blood/shadows... number of dead bodies low.

I did one thing lately that seems to have obliterated my general lag issues of late> I followed Cross's advice in his post in this thread;-

This won't get rid off recently acquired spyware/adware though unfortunately.
