Anyone using the VSP stats? Not exactly easy to find, but I reeeally like them. However, two questions.
1. Why do they never match with the main stats, even the weekly stats? 2. Anyone else find the Kills-per-game average seems awfully low for everyone? As per 2, I suppose some factors must be a second round starts, but a player quits right away with 0 kills. Or a player comes in just as a round ends and only gets a kill or 2. what would be cool is if you could edit the stat collector to ignore stats unless a player kills+deaths added up to some minimum number. For example, unless a player kills and deaths add up to at least 4, and if they haven't planted or defused, their stats get ignored. That would normally weed out players who likely only were in for a few minutes or less in a round. Of course, this is all likely impossible, but as a reckless, attacking player I like trying to see if my kills per game is good, but everyone's stat is obviously skewed somewhat by extremely short games. All that said, I love the VSP stats. You should add a link to the main stats page so people know they are there. I've been checking your web page for a long time, and never realized they were there! 1. Why do they never match with the main stats, even the weekly stats?
Several little reasons 1) The biggest reason is errors in the log files. VSP stats kicks out several kills/round because the log file doesn't record them correctly. Kill lines with small snytax errors get skipped but ServerStat still records the kill. 2) The weekly stats are way off this week do to missing log files from several server restarts trying to fix a Punkbuster bug. The weekly VSP stats are missing all of Monday's stats. I can't remember for sure but I think the Stock server is also missing half of Tuesdays' stats as well. 3) The ServerStats program rotates the server log file prior to it parsing the file. The way it does this doesn't work correctly 100% of the time but the only other option is to shutdown the servers every day while the stats program runs. This can cause a day of stats to not be recorded in either VSP or ServerStats or sometimes both. Another possible side effect is the ServerStat program may not rotate the log file this causing the the day to be recorded twice. 4) VSP tracks players by GUID and combines all stats regardless of the players name., ServerStats tracks players by name, even a minor change like color will start a whole new set of stats. 2. Anyone else find the Kills-per-game average seems awfully low for everyone? I think this confuses a lot of people. Most consider a game as two rounds. The way the stat programs work, a round/game is from map load to map load. So in the Base Assault servers each game from start to finish is considered 2 games. For example You join Barb with 3 minutes left to go. << you get 4 kills New round starts. <<<--- you get 30 kils Round #2 starts. <<<--- you get 30 kills You leave after the 2nd full round. From the time you joined the server until the time leave you had 64 kills. You have played in 3 rounds ( when you 1st joined plus the 2 full rounds ) with 64 kills This would make your Kills/game equal to 21.3 VSP for some reason, adds 1 round to your actuall number played when it figures kills/games. I assume this is to add compatiablity to some game types. The effect this has decreases with the number or games played. For example after with 100 kills & 10 games it will reduce your kills/games by .1 From 10kills/game to 9.9kills per game Or by using you as an example from the weekly stats 392 kills in 31 games. Your real kills/game is 12.66 But VSP show it as 12.25 because it divides by 32 not your actual 31 games. Not a big difference but it's there. -------------------- Not a word was spoken to contradict or disagree with S@bot when he called me a....

Druid, you really need to go into more detail when you answer questions!
Now my head is spinning just trying to sort out all the differences between the two stat packages. I guess the bottom line is: kill them more than they kill you! But, don't do it on a Tuesday following a Sunday Punkbuster reset, unless it is the third Tuesday in the month as that is when half the rounds will be doubled for the sake of adding to everyone's insecurity levels. |

The several kills lost per game makes a lot of sense. Even before this week, I had about 100 more kills on ServerStats than VSP. Also, make no mistake, I wasn't complaining because my personal stats were bad. So far this week, I'm the lead KPG players on Barb! But, here's a major question. On the ServerStats when it lists how many "rounds" a player has played, versus VSP saying "games". Is is correct to say that Barb is split into 2 games per round, and VSP is showing games, whereas SeverStats is showing rounds? That'd make sense to me, because VSP always shows me playing more "games" than ServerStats shows me playing "rounds", but just wanted to clarify. MoD -------------------- ![]() |

The several kills lost per game makes a lot of sense. Even before this week, I had about 100 more kills on ServerStats than VSP.
I'm talking about 10-20 kills missing out of all the kills on the server over the course of a day. A big difference like that would mean one of two things. 1) VSP didn't run correctly one or 2 days. 2) ServerStats didn't correctly rotate the log file & stats were complided twice for the same day. As a sample, I just re-ran a Serverstats and VSP stats using the log file from yesterday on Barb. Serverstats recorded 3305 kills on the server VSP Skipped 9 kills out of the 3305 kills. Here are the test runs from both if anyone wants to compare them Serverstats http://8.9.4.75/test/stat_kill.html VSP http://8.9.4.75/vsp/pub/themes/bismarck/in...ills&order=DESC Serverstats considers a round to be from the start of a game until the end ( round 1 & 2 ) VSP stats goes from map load to map load. The way VSP is written, it didn't work with our single map servers ( Barb, TF, Cassino ). When VSp parses a log file it searches for a Startgame command ( map start ) until it finds a shutdown command ( map closes & next map loads ). This would be considered one game. This is how games are divided in most servers Startgame Shutdowngame << 1st game New map loads Startgame Shutdowngame << 2nd game New map loads Our single map servers work like this Startgame Restartgame << 1st game Stargame Restartgame << 2nd game So in VSP our single map servers, the whole day would be seen as 1 game because there is no Shutdowngame command, only a restartgame command to restart the map. To get VSP stats to work, the log files from each server is copied to a temp directory. Then a batch file renames all the RestartGame commands to Shutdowngame. Then VSP use the log file to run stats Not that you really care about the details but I wanted to explain why the number of rounds/games are vastly different between the to stat programs. Using the same test runs list above. In Serversstats you had 7 rounds which consist of full and partial rounds In VSP stats you have 12 games counted between map loads. -------------------- Not a word was spoken to contradict or disagree with S@bot when he called me a....
