well it will be known today! all publix stores have their sign for upromise website in their store windows but theres no way of getting in contact with upromise ,which i find strange.as a police oficer and gamer you know how serious this is right? this is a site that you log your credit cards into.being the fact i always check my proccess i saw it right away and tried to delete it,obviously the wrong way because my comp crashed and wouldnt even boot.what about all the people who have no idea its running?thats alot of cc numbers.
my question to a police officer is, if your going to have a national web server to collect a % of money from all purchases ,shouldnt you be able to track who/what/where/why youve spent? and i think there should be at leats a contact number. -------------------- ![]() |

The frightening thing with that particular virus is that it captures all keystrokes and watches your activity on specific websites looking to capture your user id and password. This is VERY serious if it is being disseminated from the u promise site. Unbelievable!
James, did you find their contact form? Here it is: http://www.upromise.com/8105faq.do |

Undead that really sucks! I am sorry to hear about your inconvience!
Unreal that more hasn't been done to legally protect the rights of individuals and companies using the internet! For a moment, comprehend the cost of protecting the 'world' against a malicious code, or the collective harrassment of spam email. If it is a severe threat to which production IT systems are vulnerable, these systems must be protected asap! Which means a combination of resource time, possible production system down time, testing, possible code and/or configuration changes... consideration and analysis for application systems for every single company... absolutely mind boggling. How often do you hear about prison sentences for these people? In a word it is criminal! No easy probation! Hard time baby, hard time! |

I know for us identity theft and theft of accounts using the internet is a big thing. Alot of this goes to the RCMP instead of our department due to the fact it deals with international laws. Basically 99% of the time you can not identify the person responsible, so it's buyer or user beware.
I myself very rarely give out personal information on the internet. Unless it's a source that is accountable..ex.paypal. One example was one guy came down to report that someone emptied his bank account and ran up his visa to over $10,000.00 He had a party and someone logged on to his computer and it was not password protected. He had to pay back pay pal as there was no proof it was compromised due to theft as his user name and password was used with his IP address. All the items purchased were sent to an out of state post box. Most of the criminals involved with internet theft usually have spoof accounts. One guy emailed Dave and said I will pay you $150,00. for your car. After you receive the money send $10,000. to this transportation company that will be transporting the car to my country. Another BS...what they do is send you the cheque...it clears the bank...you send the $10,000. to this BS transportation company and then the bank calls you 2 weeks later and advises the cheque was a fraud and you now are short the $10.000 and maybe even a car. I hate criminals!!!! -------------------- ![]() Signature designed by Old Man Mike Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. ![]() |
