Hope someone can help me out here!

Mother-in-law got a new pc with windows vista, and I went out to set it up, but when it was booting up it lost power (breaker blew or something)
Now it keeps coming up with a box saying the computer was shut down unexpectedly and to click OK to reboot & restart the install.
Problem is that after I reboot the same message keeps popping up.

I never even got a chance to create a rescue disc as the problem occured the very first time I went to boot up.

Anyone have any ideas I can try to get it to install vista? Of course the computer is an Acer & didn't come with a windows disc...

Thanks in advance!

on a lot of the new systems you have to "buy$" the restore disk......

Nope, have to make your own restore disc.
Since I never got it booted in the first place I couldn't even get that far...

from things that I have read on the net,it sounds like the system has crashed, due to it thinking you are trying to tamper with it.....(its the new built in security feature)......this has happened afew times according to a report issued by a consumer firm...the only ways round it ,is to install either XP (but then you wont beable to upgrade it,or to send it back to microsoft ,who will redo the install ,but will charge you for it...

Hope this helps..

Sorry its not what you want to hear.

Thats one cool mother-in law to give you a PC. I think the first problem with it is that it has Vista installed on it. But its hard to bitch about a new PC.

Can you look in your documents and see the procedure to access the Bios? Usually you would start the computer and hit "delete" or "F1" until you see the bios screen. If you can access the bios, go over each of the settings and make sure they are correctly set. Sometimes power outages like that can shock the board and make it think you changed processors or the date could be reset or any number of things that might cause this issue. I don't know alot about Vista yet, but it could be checking Bios for any hardware changes and if a setting changed due to the power outage it will interpret that as a hardware change and not boot.

Worth a try........if you can get to the bios, maybe we can get somewhere from there!

Otherwise, as you are searching your documentation for the bios access, take note of the technical support phone numbers.................
