Do any of you hardware guys out there know if there is any difference in cable modems as far as speed goes?

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I don't think it really matters. Some have a USB interface between them and your computer. I thinkl that those would be less desirable than ethernet. You might find some reviews at Tom's Hardware. I am using a RCA that Comcast provided and it seems to work just fine.

Yo Nixon.....I too use an RCA Cable Modem that I got from my ISP and it seems to work just fine. As far as I know, it's six to one half a dozen to another........Ya might do a search on Cable Modems and read a few reviews and see what they have to say.

Not much of a difference in speed, BUT..... be sure that whatever cable modem you select will work with the transmission equipment used by your cable company/ISP. Not all modems work with all transmission gear (I speak from experience on this). Your cable company/ISP should be able to provide you with a list of "approved" modems.

As for the USB vs. ethernet connection, mox nix. USB transfer rates are actually significantly faster, so the limiting factor is the speed of your connection to the backbone, not the connection from the modem to the computer.

thanks for all the replys guys....I knew I would get the info I needed from you.

I also have the RCA one I bought from Caomcast a couple years back. It has been "reseting" on me during the middle of a game and was thinking about replacing it.

all cable modems work the same, its the speed at which your provider limits you to is what causes lag, and as far as usb modems, you see no difference in speeds, usd 1.1 is limited to 12mb/s and cable wires only can have up to 10mb/s so usb and ethernet see no difference
