The most common mistake I see new players make is not taking time when they move around. If you watch MOB, and some of the better players you will see that most of the time we are careful when we walk around. Hug the wall, look out from the doorway by leaning around the corner, crouch and lean when you can. Take your time and don't just charge around. Think when you are about to go in a room or area where someone could be and account for that. If you watch real military people you will NEVER see guys just bullrushing in somewhere and it is a good way to lose your life quickly.

Lastly I like to use the bait and move tactic alot. Hide somewhere and start shooting people, then retreat and move to a spot that allows you to observe the place you just left. Almost always someone will "come after you" an think you are in the same place.

Talk about bait? I let the guy that i know is new on the server to rush out there and watch him die then take out his killer...

I personally like to patrol small areas back and forth that i know are active and lay down support fire. If it's a map where you kinda have a forward line with a few breaks, like Angry Feilds for instance, then i move about cautiously and try to look around as low profile and pop and duck along with the leans. My fingers have become quite agile and remapping my keys to more practical positions.

In fact I guess that is a good tip...
Remap your keys a bit (it's bad at first but in the long run you will win out)
Oh and use a laser mouse!

I have played here since the end of last summer and I learn more from watching the better players (that includes all MOB players) . Watch how they move, stop and line up behind a corner. I can't tell you the times I've been killed and never see the more than a muzzle flash. Also, practice with more than one weapon...it is a big difference in recoil, pattern and damage....some work well in some maps and some don't. And mostly I would say...PLAY...PLAY and then PLAY some more.....when I first started I was always the last guy on the kill list....and sometimes I still am, but the more you play and learn, the better you will get. And lastly with the SV_Pure server...you now can compare your SKILL with others and not wonder which cheats they are using....

Nice comment about support fire and key remapping, dariusking.

Yeah, you ARE good and the pop and fire method. Most infuriating fer us slow oldfolks.

I think the best suggestion for new players is to learn the maps. Takes time, gets frustrating, but well worth it. Try playing the whole of one game on one side, then switch the next time your on it. Knowing the terrain is the best advantage you can give yourself.

And, darnit...LOOK AROUND! I can't tell you how many enemy I've popped who ran right by my position just feet away. Hmm, and vice-versa, when I'm in a runnin and gunnin mood. 30 seconds from a good vantage point can let you size up two or three kills...guys in windows have limited view, actually, and you can often see them before they see you.

Give yourself a present and learn the game by camping FIRST. dry.gif Find that spot where you can zing'em from a distance in a limited field of fire. It's good for confidence and learning how to set up kill zones. Don't mind those who would berate you for your activities...and watch and learn from the vets who come and hunt you out!

I still dont get it how the MOB align themselves with the corners so well?? I cant see em and i get frustrated cuz i cant see who killed me, but usually a nice nade helps and I am famous for my KILL me and ILL NADE ya LOL, some ppl get frustrated at this tactic but hey thats all I got, and I dont like to sit around and wait for my vicitims(NOT TRYING TO PUT DOWN ANYONE), i like to run around KILL and not necessarily get killed ..........youve seen me before, i am that one guy thats lost when shot upon!

peace and KILL ME IF U DARE

Yeah I must say those of you who get thse corners so tight, DAMN IT! Certainly SVTCobra is a wiz at it! I can see him, but when I try to get the corner "just right" he ends up capping me anyways! But I am one who hugs walls and uses my leaning to an advantage.

Also as FatheMurphy wrote, learn the maps! There are a million places in a map to hide. I will shoot at a spot in a map, even if I can not see if there is someone hiding, just because 9 out of 10 times someone IS there!

My 2 pennies are these:

I dont sneak around at all unlike some of you guys. I can get 1st and second play like 80% of the time on most maps, but my deahts are always one of the highest. Anyway, I do the the following:

1. Bait and retreat, I dont run quite so far back, but if Im having a shootout with somebody, I stop shooting like im out of ammo, duck behind the corner for a second, and then come back out firing, usually, they are either switching to grenades to flush me out, or not expecting me to come back out.

2. Never stop moving, I rack up kills fast and theres always some guy whos got way less kills trying to sneak around (no disrespect to those who do and kick ass) clogging up the hallways getting people shot and keeping you from gettin the hell away from grenades, move fast, know the maps, always check corners.

3. AIM FOR THE HEAD! I get accused of cheating a lot cuz I run around so much and never stop moving, because of that I run head on into players a LOT, and we both start blasting, but I aim for the head and they I believe do not. They lose 90% of the time. Its not cheating, its aiming.

4. Be resourcful, grenades are more useful for flushing people out then blowing them up. Use them often.

5. If your using smg's or mg's always shoot in 2 or 3 shot bursts unless your at point-blank range.

Thats all I can think of right now, but that shit gets me huge kills. Thats my 2 pennies, Im out.

FATHER......................

you're not supposed to encourage happy campers!

Althought you are corrcet as your age has granted GREAT wisdom.

ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS be aware of what your team is doing.

What I mean, if you see groups of people with usually high kill scores, then follow them and watch what they do.

DO NOT JUST POP A SQUAT AND BUILD A CAMPFIRE AS YOU WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO RUN BY!

Go read a book if you're that board!
