I know for us identity theft and theft of accounts using the internet is a big thing. Alot of this goes to the RCMP instead of our department due to the fact it deals with international laws. Basically 99% of the time you can not identify the person responsible, so it's buyer or user beware.

I myself very rarely give out personal information on the internet. Unless it's a source that is accountable..ex.paypal.

One example was one guy came down to report that someone emptied his bank account and ran up his visa to over $10,000.00 He had a party and someone logged on to his computer and it was not password protected. He had to pay back pay pal as there was no proof it was compromised due to theft as his user name and password was used with his IP address. All the items purchased were sent to an out of state post box.

Most of the criminals involved with internet theft usually have spoof accounts. One guy emailed Dave and said I will pay you $150,00. for your car. After you receive the money send $10,000. to this transportation company that will be transporting the car to my country. Another BS...what they do is send you the cheque...it clears the bank...you send the $10,000. to this BS transportation company and then the bank calls you 2 weeks later and advises the cheque was a fraud and you now are short the $10.000 and maybe even a car.

I hate criminals!!!!
