Yeah right.... In Norway everyone incl. Transocean, Conoco Philips, Exxon and all other oil company pays 80 % tax! If a company want to drill oil in Norway you pay 80% tax.

If Norway taxes these corporations I would believe that they would roll that cost back into the product they are selling. That is probally why as an "Oil" country they have high prices. You can tax a company into oblivion and they will pass it on to the consumer because they have to

US has debt above their head - which make them poorer towards other countries. The value of US is the value of the dollar. Europe still have the same buying power any which way the US economy is going. But the oilprices has surged in Euro as well, but not so much as in USD.

My point about buying power was that before the Euro the US dollar was the most stable and largest currency in the world and used for trade everywhere. Now that the Euro is stable and is a huge block it is in competition with the dollar thus driving down the dollars value.

Yea we are Idiots.... We fund 1/2 of the worthless UN. Billions and Billions in foreign Aid around the world even to countries that hate us. We have loaned out Billions that have never been paid back. We are running around like spoiled little rich kids with a credit card trying to buy friends around the world by giving them gifts of cash

For a 16 months or so I warned about this scenario which is developing here in the forums. I remember especially Snot Rocket had a quite different view. To me these oil prices is not a shock. However from these levels I would not go long oil. I'll think the USD will raise somewhat and the oil and commodities will plunge. We'll see.

If the US puts together a tough Energy policy with drilling in the US and pulling shale oil, and investment in newer high efficient engines the World speculators that currently see no more supply and an increasing demand will back off and the price should drop. As far as the US currency goes. we will eventually get thru the Home mortgage debacle and then raise interest rates and the dollar will rebound because it will be worth more on the open market.

I've read a lot on both sides of the whole barrel = this much in gas price debate. I don't know the answer but the difference between the 2 plans is funny.
