I'm assuming you guys have your ventrilo hosted on the same site as your stats? I'm trying to find out if this is the only way it can be done. Would appreciate any info you guys could give thanks.

Yep.
Be sure to read the rventriloreadme.txt which comes with the status scripts. It explains everything a lot better than the readme which comes with the ventrilo server program.
