Some people have had problems with to much fog in SH.
It turns out fog is dependant on your graphic settings. If your color and texture depth are both 16 bit you may have a lot more fog than other people. Change one of them to 32 bit and see it you can tell a difference. I have both of them set to 16 but the fog is not that excessive...
