So, how about the bombings in London today?

I'll tell you how I felt. I was filled with rage when I heard about them. I think 9/11 scared me because it was here on U.S. soil, but this pisses me off, maybe just because it's too far away for me to be immediately scared. I do not understand how people can do things like that. Last I heard the death toll was over 40, but that was this morning. 40 civilians.... I know it's nothing compared to 9-11, but still. The cowardice that it must take to kill innocent people to support a cause....

And what makes it worse is in my mind, I can see someone about 4 years from now telling everyone that it was the British government that planted all the bombs.... Sickening.

Another thing I hate is that attacks like these drive yet an even further wedge between conservatives and liberals. At the time when we should all be uniting to cope with what happened, many conservatives are saying "Nuke 'em" and the liberals, understandably, get mad about that. Then, the conservatives, also understandably, get mad because the liberals appear to support what happened by worrying about the freedoms of people who could be terrorists.

Here's the main issue: nuking the middle east would solve nothing. There are billions of muslims in the world, mostly peace-loving ones. But, if we went and nuked their homelands, killing their families, then they too might become somewhat more radical. Then the problem would be even more widespread than it already is. Face it, there are probably thousands of terror cells already operating in every major country in the world, and muking the middle east would drive them to even more desperate measures. They would probably throw caution to the wind and go on killing sprees of vengeance. That would make the situation worse than it already is.

However, we cannot sit and do nothing. I do not know what can be done, but the answer is not to fight among ourselves. The problem is that no matter what we, the Western world, do to try to reach out to the middle east and help, they (refering to the muslim extremists) will view it negatively. If we leave them to their own devices there, then they will probably slaughter the Israelites, consolidate their power, and launch more attacks. They will have won, and the terror tactics would then be proven successful and repeated whenever they desire something more.

We do have to take a stand and empower the peace-loving muslims to control the Middle East so that there is hope for a peaceful future between us. However, as I said before, I do not know how that can be done. But I do know that it will never be accomplished as long as there are people in our own country calling each other "liberal commies" and "warmongers." Attacks like these should unite us, not divide us. So cut out all the name-calling and insults; now is not the time.

1. There will always be a divide no matter what anyone does. Because liberals/democrats will always hate republicans/conservatives and vise-versa. This problem divides my family in half, my moms side of trhe family are liberals, dad's side of the family are conservatives, but both my parents are conservatives. Its so bad that we cant even have a nice Thanksgiving or Christmas together. My parents and dads family try not to let it bother them, but my mom's side of the family is keen at trying to start fights, and.. well.. they do. My aunt ruined my last birthday party because she couldnt keep her big yap shut, and by the way, she loooooooves getting my mom and dad all riled up and pissed off. I know that this info is irrelavent to the topic but i figured it would help show that there is a ununifyable (spelling?) divide between the political parties.

2. Frosty your absolutely right. No matter what we, the US, does someone in the world will be upset by the descision. its a lose-lose situation. But like my dad tells me all the time, "Why should we care what another country thinks of us. This country needs to do what it needs to do, regardless of what fuckin Mongolia thinks of us. Bush should say 'Screw you, were doing what we need to do to straighten this bullshit out. You dont like it, don't come to live here.'"
