been meaning to say hi for quite a while now, such an addicting server you guys have. Great group of regulars too, both MOB and non-MOB. i am at work so i guess i should keep this brief. (even if it is long... it is brief for me lol)

was a bummer to see your vent go down by that kid a bit back, had to make fun of him a bit until he booted me.... i couldn't help myself i hate ppl who hack and pimp themselves while doing it (prob didn't even know what he was doing either, i tried giving him a site i have b4 gettin booted, woulda helped log his persojnal info to give to you all, but i got booted). I hope programmers begin putting in clientside code fthat sniffs out attempts/misues and bombs the luser's system instead. (i know lit's a legal no-no, f-that they deserve it)

You all figure out how to stop the spam/flood/bots? I tossed some basic crap i have found out the past cpl months about vent at the bottom of this post, hopefully something is of interest, but i bet your admin(s)have probably figured out the best course by now... and probably know more about this particular prog more then me. If you have any input i would appreciate some back as it is always good to learn.

I'll check around for your vent connection info, see if i need to do anything special to get in or if the IP changed, the last few times i tried no one was in there and it looked like the default installation, but prob all setup now...

I also would like to toss out a scrim request (i know different forum, will do once i get it all together) to you all but i gotta get some of my guys organized, too much counterstrike playing in the a-team... and with dod source comin out who knows if anyone will want to for awhile. Any particular day you guys like to scrim?

I like looking up info on programs and what not so i thought i would and copy you all on what i found, although i must say what i found didn't add much to what i knew already... weak coverage/info online about securing ventrilo... time to read the manual i guess... been wanting to test this on a server anyway : )

User Registration/authentication
Make them register, if they wanna play/join in the chattin fun... they will register
(i thoguht i heard u did that already)
maybe use auth2... i dunno what that is though... probably just a level of authentication vs abilities once inside the server... possibly placing all users into a group with limited abilities or something totally different?

Default Admin Passowrd vs User Password
One way to keep your server more secure is not to give anyone your default admin password. Keep this for yourself and create users with admin access level giving them their own passwords from the user manager interface.

Spam Filtering
Enable the server side spam filters....
Have No duplicate IP's on etc... (i know proxy attacks go around it, but at least some people will get stopped)

Paging Texting Etc, Voice Notification... stuff that can be flooded with scripted actions
Turn it all off, who uses it anyway? all ya really need is voice right?

Voice Notification
notification of channel changes, users joining server or channell etc is worthless compared to what flooding it can do.

Traps
Make no default channel and have the main area muted and every extra turned off, then at least people have to work a little, possibly giving you time to do something first.
