Some of you might have noticed how slow the MOB Home Page and Vent Status Page have been lately. This has been primarily due to the use of ServerSpy for reporting our server status.

We have now switched to Game-Monitor for this function. A big "thank you" goes out to Steel for updating the HTML code so that it comes up much quicker and also includes the status of all MOB servers.

Good work, but there are still a few bugs. This is how it displays in the Firefox browser.

I'd be curious if it looks okay now that the server that had hosed is back on-line.

fixed

Althought there is a slight chance the page might render differently with firefox for the MAC, which is what Hamma uses.

It looks better - all the mini monitors are aligned properly. What is odd is the sizing of the rightmost column that contains the mini monitors. Your HTML should have them at 165 pixels with the mini-monitors taking up only 130 pixels. Firefox is rendering the right column at approximately 159 pixels and the mini monitors at 163 pixels. This makes them look as if they are extending outside the column slightly.

Hammatime, you are correct. Good eye! The game-monitor buttons I put on the page are bigger than the right html column by about 5 pixels. The only way to fix this would be to remake the webpages, as the dependency is on the structure of the graphic at the top of the page.

The top page graphic looks like one picture, but is actually in 3 predefinded sections, brought together by the width of each column, left, middle, and right. The right column is slightly smaller than the left.

I did some local experiments where I resized the 3 graphic sections so that I could even the left and right column spacing, giving more pixels to the right hand column, but the top and bottom graphics simply didn't look as good when resized.

I pointed all of this out to Old Man Mike. He said that the tiny extension of the game-monitor buttons over the right column were simply not a big enough deal to worry about. His main concern was getting server monitors on the page that didn't use serverspy's javascripting, which often took too long to load.

Hopefully he is correct, and the overlap is not too distracting to anyone.

I contacted game-monitors a few times last year about them making a mini monitor similiar to what serverspy offers. I told them on 3 ocassions I would pay for a subscription if they would offer more skins, even pointed out how their monitor was a little to big to fit into a lot of nuke skins.
I never got a single reply.

Game-monitor probably didn't reply because they consider their xml feed as a "make it look anyway you want it" plan. You can even add the map pictures and everything.

Problem with this is (Old Man Mike and I have been playing with the xml feed) that you have to have some sort of xml parser. And then on top of this, you have to build your output block. And etc, etc. Translation -- major work.

Game-monitor does offer quite a number of skins for both blocks and buttons. What I put on these web pages are actually sig buttons. Pretty decent for very little effort, lol.
