So none of you older farts like me were ever into tabletop wargames- like Advanced Squad Leader, Axis and Allies, Stratego etc.,?

I was hooked on axis and allies board game... My favorite PC is Hearts of Iron 1 and 2...

I used to strategize how to manipulate my parents into letting me stay up all night to play it.

War games? OK lets see if you guys remember any of these. My first war games were all by Milton Bradley. Battleship (standard & electronic), Sub Search http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1551, Carrier Strike http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2444, Chopper Strike http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2446 & Tank battle http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2598. Later on there was Stratego and Risk. I purchased a copy of Panzer Leader by Avalon Hill http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2639 but never could find anyone who wanted to play. About that time video games came along and I never looked back. I played Panzer General on Panasonic 3DO and then Panzer General 2 (my fav) on PC. Am I the only one who hated Panzer General 3?

Right now I am still playing "War in the Pacific" by 2by3 games,
published by Matrixgames.com I started just before Christmas
and am now up to June 5, 1942 playing day by day. BUT with
"Silent Hunter IV" slated to come out this week, I may be sinking
those Japanese Merchants all by myself....

Other than Stratego, Battleship and and mainstream stuff like that, my first game was a copy of the 1965 Avalon Hill 'Blitzkreig' game. Anyone rember that? This game opened my 11yo eyes to a whole new gaming dimension. Squad Leaader follewed then onto others.

I too liked the Close Combat games.
