So, how about the bombings in London today?

I'll tell you how I felt. I was filled with rage when I heard about them. I think 9/11 scared me because it was here on U.S. soil, but this pisses me off, maybe just because it's too far away for me to be immediately scared. I do not understand how people can do things like that. Last I heard the death toll was over 40, but that was this morning. 40 civilians.... I know it's nothing compared to 9-11, but still. The cowardice that it must take to kill innocent people to support a cause....

And what makes it worse is in my mind, I can see someone about 4 years from now telling everyone that it was the British government that planted all the bombs.... Sickening.

I almost choked on my chili when she said this. She is an intelligent woman, but this was the dumbest thing I ever heard her say.

She thought the strategy made sense. WOW, she has no sense of history at all. Hell, if the US left the Mid East now it wouldn't matter. The Enlish don't fuck around. They have dealt with bombings for most of the last 30 years. They don't let themselves get pushed around. If the US said tomorrow, we are leaving Iraq and Afghanistan the English would say, "Oh well" and do their best on their own.

The demostartion wasn't just a bunch of fools, it was sponsered by the Muslim Council for Britain & Muslim Parliamentary Association of the UK.
I really have to wonder how many if any of the people present for the demostartion was involved in the attacks yesterday.

I think you are the naive one. Which is funny, because if one assumes that you are a Republican, or if you hold conservative opinions on politics, then your comments contradict traditional conservative viewpoints.

The world, as many people here love to point out, is strikingly anti-American for myriad reasons. And this is nothing new. People around the world dislike the US the same way we dislike France and Germany and whatever other nations which happen to send us the wrong vibes. No big deal. Conservatives and liberalsl like to point out this fact, albeit to advance different agendas, obviously.

So if one understands the terrorist mind, it's not too inconceivable to believe that your normally intelligent wife would be closer to the truth than you give her credit for. Terrorists hate the US and everything it stands for. They hate it just as much as they hate Israel, perhaps even more so, because our culture is much more pervasive. This gets them more than anything. So, with all this stuff happening around the world, and the Iraq war, and given how much they hate us, I bet the terrorists are willing to punish anyone who sides with the United States. That is, in their minds the British are guilty of meddling in Iraq, but, more importantly, they are guilty of aiding the greatest infidel in the world--the US.

They aren't so stupid as to think that they are really going to change western foreign policy. But their mentality is punitive, and so they will continue to murder innocent people--a sort of twisted force multiplier.
