That's not entirely true. I'm no computer expert, but I thought Firefox has different (and hopefully fewer) weaknesses than IE.

...especially since it doesn't use active x...

would someone be so kind as to point me to the edit button?

thanks.

Holden is right. If you want even better security while using Firefox, turn off Java script.

Also just for shits and giggles, here are some things you can do to avoid viruses, spyware, etc.

First, use Firefox for security, superior pop-up blocking, and it's just a better browser.

Second, if you use AIM, Yahoo!, or any of the other IM's, if you ever get sent a link from one of your friends, always hold your mouse over the link and see where it's really going. There is an AIM virus out that will send a fake link to everyone on a person's buddy list, without the person knowing. There is also a new AIM virus out that will actually respond back if you ask what the link is that was just sent. It will say something to the effect of it's ok, it's not a virus. Just don't click on shit that your friends send you unless you know the site. If you do happen to click on one and it wants yout o download something, don't do it.

Third, don't open up any weird e-mails, escpecially ones wtih attatchments. If you have a virus scanner, scan the file before opening/running it if you think it's something you need, which it probably isn't, so don't do it.

Last, always keep your Windows up-to-date. Configure your computer to do all the updates automaticly.

By doing these simple steps, you can remain virus free. These are the only security measures I have. I have no spyware or virus scanner.

Fuck saucy.

"A Better Web Experience
Firefox 1.5 has an intuitive interface and blocks viruses, spyware, and popup ads. It delivers Web pages faster than ever. And it’s easy to install and import your favorites. Packed with useful features like tabbed browsing, Live Bookmarks, and an integrated Search bar, Firefox will change the way you experience the Web, for the better."

I think that the blocking virus claim is to an extent misleading. Yes, it will block viruses that are written for exploits in IE and Active X, but if a bug is found in Firefox that can be exploited using Java Script or something similar, FF will have no way to stop it until the bug is patched. It also won't block e-mail viruses, AIM viruses, etc.

Wait! There are actually 2 insults here. Saucy also said Firefox wouldn't help any! BURN! I was gonna point this out earlier, but I didn't really care. I'm so lazy. I never got any viruses when I had Windows ME, cuz I was one of 10 people running it, and nobody bothered to write an exploit for it. Of course, I couldn't run anything properly using it, which was more of a problem than a virus, but the glass was half full, right... lol!
