Any UFC fans?
I got bored with it a long time ago but now I'm interested again. I happen to catch a marathon rerun of the ultimate fighter show (season 8). I normally can't stand reality shows but found this one entertaining. It was interesting to get a behind the scenes look at what their training regiment is like. I ended up liking it so much, I downloaded or ebayed the other 7 seasons of the show. Now I'm really hooked on watching all the UFC fights. Back in the early glory days it was amazing to watch Royce Gracie completely outclass every opponent. Now I see the same overwhelming technical abilities in Lyoto Machida. It's amazing this guy hasn't been given a title shot yet with a 14-0 record in MMA. He already easily beaten several previous title holders. I guess a lot of people have complained his fights are boring. I think he's the most interesting people to watch because his style is completely different than anyone else fighting. Everything from his stance to his striking method is just so far beyond everyone else out there right now. For example he landed a perfect switch-kick in his last match, never seen that before in a UFC fight. I read on 1 site which compiles fight stats, Lyoto Machida lands the highest percentage of strike of all the fighters in the UFC. Not only that, he also has one of the lowest percentages of received strikes, where an opponent tries to hit him an succeeds. It will be interesting to see how well he fights after taking a lot of damage, because it's never happened in his previous 14 fights. I predict once he gets a title shot in the 205lb division, he will probably set a new record for the longest winning streak. |

wow, I've never even heard of this guy before. I've heard in an interview from dana white that getting a title shot is all about having a big name and being a huge crowd pleaser. Which is why Brock lesnar got to the title fight this cotoure so fast

He's only had 6 UFC fights, the rest have been in either smaller shows or Pride fights in Japan.
He's ranked #2 in the world in the 205lb division. The only reason he's not #1 is because that automatically goes to the title holder. The big names he's beat would be Tito Ortiz former UFC light heavyweight Rich Franklin former middleweight UFC champion B.J. Penn former UFC lightweight champion He got his #2 ranking after his last fight where he knockout of Thiago Silva in the 1st round. At the time, Silva was undefeated with a 13-0 record. |

The only reason he hasn't gotten a title shot is because he has a unibrow.

The whole town is happy about that news
Rashad is a good fighter but lacks the technical skill of someone like Machida. Plus Rashad's short reach is going to force him in tight an often, opening him up to Machida counters where he wins most of his fights. Rashad's only chance is a knockout, if it goes all 5 rounds Machida will definitely win because his style is all about the score. It would be interesting to see how he does after 5 rounds, I don't think he's ever had to go 5 before. Prediction Machida will win Then will fight Quinton after he heals up. His 1st real challenge will be when he faces the winner of Liddell/Rua, because those guys will force him to change his winning gameplan. |

I'm absolutely amazed at the training some of the guys go through. I remember watching a TUF clip where their cardio training involved running sprints on a treadmill with their nose tape closed an forced to breath thru a snorkel. 100% effort expended while your breathing efficiency is cut in half. |

Since YouTube removed the video I posted earlier showing Machia's last fight, here is a highlight reel in it's place.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3mfcyYU7BQ At the 3:28 mark you can catch him doing the switch kick I mentioned earlier which I was so impressed by. Started out with a feinted right low kick, then turns it into a left head kick. It's hard to catch because the video quickly cuts into another head kick shot. |

I can see that switch kick either working very well, or if his opponet tires to counter when he starts that low kick he is wide open while he tries to get off the second kick and could be taken down easily and get mounted. it looks like its got a 45-45 or working and a 10 percent chance of his oppnet taking the low and blocking the high kick -------------------- ]

Just finished watched UFC96, lot of good fights. One of the best shows I've seen in a while.
Couple good knock-outs Two good upsets. Now I just can't wait for UFC98. While I'm glad the fight is now going to be Evans-Michida in place of Lesnar-Mir due to Mir's surgery. I would have been happy to see Mir an Lesnar fight. In my opinion Lesnar doesn't belong in the UFC or if he did, they would need to start a super heavy weight class for him. There is no way Lesnar should have gotten a title shot with a 2-1 record. I'm a huge Couture fan but I'm not impressed Lesnar who had to cut weight to make the 265 cut-off beat a 44 year old 215lb Couture. |

What's everyones thoughts on Fedor Emelianenko?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbFwdlp965s I used to watch UFC way back in the begining... ALA Tank Abbot days... It would be neat to see these leagues get a little bit more together to make some more worldwide matches. |
