I disagree Kleerance. The effect steroids and other performance enhancing drugs have on baseball is the speed and power of the bat swing. Not sure if you have ever stood in front of a baseball coming at you at 75 + mph but the speed of the ball is simply "awesome". There is no doubt that many of the HR's we have seen the last 10 years form some people are the direct result of these drugs.
The money to be made is also so "awesome" that wannabee's and veterans are under tremendous pressure to use whatever means possible to get an edge. -------------------- |

Then golf must have the same big problem. Regular use of anobole steroids creates big muscles (with the right training program). My impression of a baseballplayer, or a golfer for that matter, isn't exactly "Mr. Olympia look-alikes." To me it looks like golf - speed and swing is much more important than pure muscle power..(or?) But I guess they must have some sort of effect anyway since many of those guys has been caught using it...... Anyway my purpose with my post was to make a statment about those sport which really gain advantage on steroids. (MoD wondered how Undead could claim that hockey had a bigger probl. than baseball). And baseball is not one of those sports. -------------------- ![]() Members Of Barbarossa ![]() |

Baseball and Golf are both explosive sports. Although both are more about timing than brute strength. In high school I was a HUGE 140 lbs and 5'9 and regularly hit a golf ball 320 yds. Had little to do with me being strong for sure. I do think that steroids can make someone stronger thus make the ball go farther but I still think it's not the huge advantage that some want to think it is. I'm sure somewhere someone in golf might try steroids but I don't think it's something that will benefit them.
With baseball the thing we don't know is how many of the strike outs came from pitchers who were just as juiced as the batters. So far almost all of the guys caught are pitchers. So are the numbers really that inflated? Or is it just about the same because the pitchers are just as dirty as the hitters? I think they have to take the era for what it is and move on. You can't single out 10-12 players when you know a large percentage are using something. All the Mitchell Report did was find 2 guys who would talk. There's a guy like him in EVERY club house. I'd be willing to bet my rent money on that. -------------------- ![]() Give a man a match and he's warm for a min. Set him on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life. |

yes, this is another fact.the first person you think about when you say steroids is bonds or mcguire etc -hitters.. more pitchers have come up positive then hitters.pitchers use it for a faster rehab aka mr clemens .
