So as most of you know, today was a sit down strike against the US economy by the illegal immigrants and those supporting them. They did not shop, work, or go to school. So my girl decided it would be a great night to go shopping, kinda see how things looked. We went to Wal-Mart, which I typically hate, but tonight it was so awesome. It's usually packed inside and out with illegals asking for money or selling crap. I don't know why DC Metro has so many hispanics immigrants, but we do. So outside is empty of pan-handlers. Inside... it's all nice and clean. People aren't screaming. Short overweight hispanic ladies aren't wearing halter tops with the muffintops hanging out. It was beautiful. We were able to walk through the store without being assaulted or mooched. When we checked out, I mentioned to the cashier that tonight had been my best shopping experience at the Wal-Mart. The manager happened to be right there so he asked me why. I explained that it wasn't overcrowded or packed with drunk gangsters. I also liked how clean it was, etc. All the other people in the lines suddenly voiced up and said they really liked it too and that was one of the reasons they decided to come shopping tonight. It was hilarious.
All and all, I can see how the strike might be putting a dent in the economy/store's pockets... but in my mind, it showed how much nicer shopping can be when they are not there. Sometimes less is more. Disclaimer - There is nothing racist about my post and I'm not racist. I try to hate everyone equally. -------------------- ![]() |

Living in Texas, the border and immigration issues are a pretty big deal. Today in my entrepreneurship class one of the project teams was presenting their new venture business plan/idea to the class. Their business was essentially a home building deal. It got humorous and a bit embarassing for the presenter when she began explaining that one of the threats to their business was that all the illegal workers might get kicked out of the US and sent back home, thus leaving them without a labor force. It was hilarious. Fortunately for her Texas A&M doesn't have the most diverse student body around.
