What a shame. So sad. He will me sorely missed. He was a great conservationist and a heck of a lot of fun to watch. RIP ![]() -------------------- |

You don't realize how dangerous the stuff he did actually was because he was so damn good at it.
That's a damn shame, but at least he went out doing what he loved. -------------------- |

I just find it so ironic that he wasn't killed by a croc, or something more dangerous. They've said stingray fatalities are fairly rare, and that's how he goes out. Just ain't right.

HE WAS A HUUUGE ANIMAL ACTIVAST! he will be missed dearly! i loved to watch his show.the only guy as good as him is jeff corwin.i hope his family can make it through this !
syronx - he was struck lightly by a stingray and a barb went into his chest-that caused i=him to go into cardiac arrest in a short time.they tried to get him to the nearest facility but he was doa. This post has been edited by UNDEAD 1: 09/04/06 5:25pm -------------------- ![]() |

Here is a article by CNN that speaks of Steve and another victim.
http://edition.cnn.com/2006/TRAVEL/09/05/irwin.tour/ This shows how stingrays strike: very interesting....I went Scuba diving with Stingrays...100 feet under water, they seemed so peaceful. had a good friend who every winter he would go down to costa rica ,el salvador to go surfing the whole winter.he would literly camp out and fish for his food only occasionaly going to the cantina for a beer.one day while fishing he stepped on a ray and it zapped him in the foot.he had no clue as to what to do and the nearest doctor was 8 hrs away through a mountainous terrain (seriously) this is hy so many people die in these type places from snake bites etc.. anyway he left to go in to town and took about 6 hrs and the doctor said his leg might come off but they carderized it instead over a bunsen burner.he neded up being ok but i saw the pictures and seriously made me ill.
he said he found out later whn going into the ocean where rays are abundent you HAVE to shuffle your steps a bit so not to step on these guys. what he did wrong and what i believe steve irwin did as well was that you do more damage from pulling the barb out because it releases more toxins. -------------------- ![]() |
