i had the chance of viewing the company of heros commercial (which looks great) but i did get the preview of clint eastwoods new movie coming out on IWO JIMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it looks to be saving private ryanesk.

although ive had my favorite movies for the pacific theatre, none in my opinion have aver effected me as SPRYAN.i have read countless books since i was a young teen and the first time i saw SPRYAN it totally blew me away for the first 10 min, because i had seen first hand what it was like and always wondered.the movie the thin red line tried to do this but failed.

iwo jima i believe was the bloodiest battle of ww2 (could be wrong) and used battleships ,air combat arty, tanks and infantry along with a beach head same as in france.i believe CLINT will bring this one home! weve talked about war movies before and spryan and bob were the favorites of most and should be as theyre the most detailed ww2 movies ive seen!

Yeah, it's the Eastwood directed movie is Flag of our Fathers, which is one hell of a book. I wouldn't put it on a mantle with Stephen Ambrose, but it's a very good read and hard to put down book. I'm looking forward to watching the US trailer as I've only seen the Japanese one so far. Didn't someone post it here a few weeks ago?

Woa, I had no idea about this movie. Like pez I also read the book and highly recommend it. The author, James Bradley, is the son of one of the Iwo flag raisers. He also has another book out that i've heard is good called Flyboys. Hes a pretty good author and puts in a lot of research to dispell myths and get down to the truth of what happened.

well today is your lucky day rush because flyboys is a movie coming out soon too w00t2.gif .seeing the previews it reminds me of hells angels.

i watched an episode on history channel on how airplanes began using mgs . biplanes in ww1 were only for spying and recon.both sides had them and every morning noon and night they would pass each othr going to spy/recon until one day a pilot (who was bored of not fighting) brought a pistol and fired at the other plane.it then was mandatory for a pistol if you were a pilot.it eventually progressed to mgs.i always found that interesting that our flying fighting machines grew from boredom.

i saw something about that movie coming out, but the book Flyboys is actually about a squadron in WWII. none the less, i'd like to see the movie, and that is really interesting about the guns. World War I is so interesting to me, because it was so transitional. You have new weapons like planes, as you said, plus chemical warfare and tanks. At the same time people were pulling arty with horses and there was even use of cavalry units.
