Try removing a PCI slot. this will allow for more air flow on the inside.
or you can turn on the lag meter /cg_lagometer 1 = on /cg_lagometer 0 = off I think those are the commands. -------------------- |

when you noticed your cpu was using 100%, looking under processes, did you notice which processes were using up your cpu?

Another option that might help is to check your windows properties regarding RAM/virual memory/system pagefile management.... most folks set it to 1.5x their ram size, but there's the other option you can tick in that area to 'let windows manage the pagefile size'... that is allocate such 'emergency memory' resources where it sees its needed.
Right click your My Computer Icon/select Properties/ in the advanced tab select Performance-settings/ then select Advanced then virtual memory change-have a look at how things are set-up there-you have 2 feasible options... 1] Custom; use the minimum-maximum area [and 2 choices here are to have setting on both to 1.5 x your total ram amount, or a minimum of around your ram total and up 1.5x your ram as the maximum]. 2]Or select system managed size to let windows calculate the pagefile size. Select 'cancel' to exit if neither of these appeal to you. That being said although I noticed programs running smoother, I did I have huge lag problems when I popped into Barby server today. Could it be your ISP connection to this server? Maybe OMM or Druid would know if something specific like that could affect things. Even with 256 ram a year ago I had nearly the best ping in the servers all the time- but the last 4-5 months I found more often than not I suffered lag issues much like yours.I have 512 ram now but that didn't ease much lag issues today. PB acted up on me too making me retype my cd key. -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

The program that is using 100% is CODUO MP, the kid at best buy said this is normal , but I dont know. I bought a 512 vid card, had onboard. This helped some now when I log in I get 60 fps. but when I log in computer locks for about 30 secs to 1 min. and fps goes down to 16 fps. Frame rate gets better when I go inside a building or to a darker area of the map, but when outside or get into heavy battle fps goes down and gets erratic. Have adjusted settings for both sound and vid lower and higher many times with no help. I am also running end it all, this also does not seem to help. Could my nic card or router be the problem? Just do not understand the lock up thing whatever is I think its the cause of my problem.
Thanks for all the support guys -------------------- ![]() |

Post exactly what your computer is, cpu & speed, and vid card at minimum.
If you have an nvidia card, do this: Right-click anywhere on your desktop, go to Properties. Then click "settings" and then "Advanced." You'll have a tab there for your vid card, click on that. Click on Performance and Quality Settings This is going to show you how your global driver settings are set-up. I'm assuming you didn't modify any settings that are game-specific beneath this. So, in the global driver settings, make sure that these are set to "application-controlled" - Antialiasing settings Anistrophic filtering Vertical Sync And then, in the game itself, you turn all of the graphics and sound down to low settings, yes? I mean, you haven't posted your system yet, so I don't know if it should be able to handle higher settings. Also, what other games are you playing, and then tell me one that is running just fine with none of these problems? I've got to confess, I'm a half-sniff away from smelling a rat here, that you're spoofing us on these problems at this point. -------------------- [img][/img]

First off my system is AMD 64, Micro- star motherboard model MS-7145 with a Radeon 1600 Pro PCIE.
Second I do not play any other games except COD, and I have been pulling my hair out for two weeks now or longer trying to solve this problem. Third I do not appreciate being called a rat or a lier, this is a real problem!!!!!!! I would just like to solve it and do not need comments like that. I have been playing on MOB servers for quite some time now and have never felt offended until now Thanks Steel !!!!!! -------------------- ![]() |

You could try this. If you have Apples quicktime or itunes installed goto their movie trailer site and try watching a high definition trailer there. Try different size ones. If you have problems unplug and replug the power to your cable modem/router so they can reset. I had lighting ruin one. And two weeks later the lighting ruined the filter on the pole and I had intermittent internet; but fine tv (by the way the filter controls your download speeds I was told several people unless some one knows different). If your on isdn I don't know.
I think your isp could be holding you back. Some want you to pay more cause they can for online gaming; or they think you are a spammer (joking). Calling them! Maybe they messed up. Another thing you could take your computer to a friend and try it there. Also install it on your friends computer. Also you could have a bad/questionable cd disk or your cd drive could be dirty or bad. I have seen both. You could also try burning a copy and try that. This what it sounds like to me. I see now you can now buy COD on Valve's Steam service if you want to buy another copy of each Cod and coduo $19.95 each. http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=all& Thats all i could think of for now. Good luck. Edit for price. Dang This post has been edited by jeffreyloaf: 10/29/06 11:39pm -------------------- ![]() |

My sincerest apologies CodeName.
I've re-read all of your posts since the beginning of this thread several times. And then I looked at the specs for your computer and scanned through the user's manuals for both your motherboard and vid card. Two things come to mind. You could have a bad memory module, but I don't really think that's it. My bigger suspicion now is your power supply. Does your vid card require a power connection? I couldn't tell from the user's manual, it just said "if it does, then...." If it does, I'm thinking that your power supply could be going bad or you might have plugged a power connector into the vid card that really wasn't up to the task (or maybe the power connector has come loose). The manual on your vid card says that your power supply should be 450w and capable of handling a 75watt surge. That's pretty dog-gone beefy. Here's what you've posted that makes me think it may be the power supply. You said that about 5 minutes into the game, poof, it all starts going slowly. Also, you said that you used to hear the fans spin up higher when you went into a game but you don't anymore. You've also defragged, eliminated all spyware/adware and checked for viruses. You've used pingplotter to verify that your ping to the servers is around 20 (wow, I'm jealous!). And you've removed the game and deleted its folder from your hard drive and re-installed. You've also verified that nothing else is running when you're running cod. So, we're pretty much down to the hardware having a problem now. The way our power supplies work is that they give the voltage that they are required to on each of the colored wires, at the amps they say they should. If you suck more amps than what it can deliver, then a power supply will go into what is called a herringbone state... sort of tries to deliver the amps, then reduces the voltage a bit to be able to keep giving the amps, but then realizes the voltage is too low so it ups the voltage which drops the amps. In other words, if you were looking at the voltage on an oscilloscope, the pattern would resemble a herringbone, a jagged up & down line. It only resets itself when the power supply is turned off and left to discharge it's capacitors completely. Okay, so, if the problem is your power supply, you could first try putting in a different power connector to the vid card, with the computer powered-off and the ac line disconnected for a few minutes. Oftentimes, one power supply connector comes from a more beefy (higher amps) feed from the power supply than the others. Sometimes it will have a tag on the line saying "pcie." This may just fix everything. If not, then post here what your power supply is, the brand and model should be enough. I'll look it up and see what all the rails are rated. And if you'd like, please say what memory you have installed, the brand, part number, and size total, if you know these things. I'll look this up too. But it sure seems a memory problem is a long shot at this point. -------------------- [img][/img]

Apology accepted. Thank you Steel and everyone else for your time and effort to help me solve this issue, its greatly appreciated.
When I talked about the game locking after 5 mins, this amount of time is granted only after a fresh install of both COD & CODUO, other wise it locks within seconds. The lock lasts about 30 secs then un-locks and fps cuts in half and erratic.Much higher fps with the new card though. Anyway here ar the specs on my power supply that was upgraded when I put the card in. Antec model SP- 400, 400 watt ATX 12V v2.0 The reason I got this one is because the box the card came in said 350 watt power supply or greater I went with greater. Also my card does not have a power connection, Memory is two sticks samsung 512 DDR SDRAM one each slot 1 gig total. not sure what part number is,sorry I was not smart enough to look before I started this post. ( lol) Thanks again -------------------- ![]() |

I can't say for sure this is it, but the user's manual for your vid card model, under the pcie special installation instructions says that you must ensure that your power supply is at least 450 watts and capable of handling a 75 watt surge.
Here's the link to the power supply specs that you say you have, http://www.antec.com/specs/SP400_spe.html. If what Radeon says is true for its 1600 pro pcie vid card, then your power supply is not beefy enough for this vid card. Your power supply cannot sustain the amps during high load gaming and is crapping out on your vid card, crippling it to something akin to drawing with crayons. So, if I were you, and I'd exhausted every suggestion written in this thread up to now, then I'd go get a bigger power supply from like newegg.com. -------------------- [img][/img]

Hey Steel
Just got off the phone with Ati,the guy I spoke with said that a 400 watt supply is enough , he also said that the 450 watt supply would be used if you had alot of extra things on your machine, and I do not.Guess I will just keep tinkering and maybe I will stumble across something. -------------------- ![]() |

Hey CodeName,
You probably already tried this....but just in case: Pull up internet Pull down tools at top Click on internet options Click on delete files Click delete all off-line files -> Press ok (might take awhile, be patient) Then do the same for cookies. I do this almost everynight after playing and it keeps my lag down. If I don't do this I get lag. Hope it works. Yes I have tried that, and I also delete those files almost daily, but thank you.
I have found the problem its punkbuster it all started after they put out the update on 10/10/06. I can play on non-pb servers with no problems, this is the second time this has happened.Hope they come out with a new one soon I miss playing on MOB servers.Base assult is my favorite, and there are only a few non-pb servers but no one is ever on them. -------------------- ![]() |

How about uninstall cod UO, then do a fresh install of everything again, including downloading pb updates- a little bit of a tedious process, but maybe it works out.
