I had a black screen once, but no error message..it turned out to be a faulty graphics card.So I changed it ,and all worked fine...if not better.

Just hold on until Druid or Steel tell you how to fix it. Unless you want to take forever like I did and called IBM. We've been wondering where you've been hiding. Hope your computer feels better soon:(

Wishing you the best of luck with that Mech! As you know, I'm in a similar situation. Tough to deal with no matter the circumstances.

Hope your Mom gets better Mechanic.
As for where to start with your computer, you might want to read through this thread http://www.mobclan.com/forums/upload/index...showtopic=12792 The bottom line is that you need to figure out someway of getting it to boot up, either in safe mode or with a boot disk or something. Then we can go from there. -------------------- [img][/img]

Thanks man im praying this can be fixed. Mechanic Hi Mech, First of all, I just want you to know how sorry I am to hear about your mother. I hope she is on the road to recovery as I compose this message. I will pray for you both. As far as your machine is concerned; can you even access your bios? (hit "delete" or "F1" or whatever your particular command is to access your bios at startup, so that your bios screen comes up?) If you can, then you can check your bios settings to see if something went askew in there. Since no one actually knows what all the bios settings are or should be, here's a link that might help if you have access to another computer. http://www.rojakpot.com/show.aspx?fileID=18 scroll down and click on the "free access to bios optimization guide" link and it will give you most every setting imaginable and an explanation of what it does. If you cannot access your bios, most likely that is your problem right there. You will need to contact your manufacturer, and tell them your sad story. Most likely it will require a replacement bios chip. If you can access your bios, and your settings are in order, I would look at your video card. ATI recently released a technical doc about their X1000 series cards and Dell computers in which the computer would not boot up due to problems with the card. I experienced this first hand with an ATI x1300pro card on a machine I built. Even though my machine was not a Dell, the card still malfunctioned and I could not get it to boot up. Luckily, I had another video card to test with, and found the problem. If you have access to another video card, you too could do this simple test by uninstalling your card and installing a different one to see if you can at least get it to boot up. Beyond this, if your machine is still under warranty, you will most likely have to call Indian tech support. If you need an interpreter, I have become quite fluent in the form of enlish they use, and would be happy to help. LOL. Also, why are you running two antivirus programs? This is generally considered overkill and the two programs can conflict and cause problems. Pick one and uninstall the other. Hope this helps, and I definitely hope your mom gets well very soon! Good luck. Keep me posted. )--Sabot--> This post has been edited by )--S@B0T-->: 11/06/06 9:46am |

Mech, I wish you and your family the best in a difficult time! Hang on to the smiles and good times!
Re: your comp... call India, really! No one knows the comps like the mfg. Its what they do. Yeah, you need to be patient but you will eventually get the help you need. And if it is warranty related they have history of the problems. Give them the chance to earn your business. This post has been edited by no_help: 11/06/06 10:29am |

Reason #1 I won't buy from Dell. I don't shop at Circuit City for the same reason. If you can't hire people who use English as their native language to service me then you won't get the opportunity to service me again. I don't want to buy a slurpee I want whatever my problem is fixed. Don't ask one of them to transfer you to someone else either... Habib takes offense to that and gets pissed!!!

Found a solution for ya. go out buy a 10lb sludge hammer and bash your pc over and over cuz dell support wont help you. my mother in law has a dell and they wont help her with her problem. form what she told me sounds like a bad motherboard. and i'll fix that in a couple of weeks when I visit her.
