today i had a very close call and has screwed me up for most of the day.as most of you know my home has been under alot of work since last year and I'm all through finally.today they were putting on two new exterior doors and it began to rain very hard so the quit for the day with only getting one on.i was watching my 1 1/2 year old son ,who was watching a video and i just finished on the phone with a client .out of the corner of my eye i notice one of the framed doors and a bunch of boards(about 150 lbs) falling toward my son.this all happened in a split second.i ran about 60 feet and dove and with one arm caught the door and blocked all the wood from hitting my son.the door still hit him but not hurting him .I'm very lucky my son wasn't killed today or seriously hurt.i honestly feel my reflex's from gaming could have been what saved him as i saw a bit of movement and quickly reacted with out hesitating only because i knew my son was in the area of the door.it does show that you could turn your head for one second and something bad could happen.
i reamed the workers a new ass today too!  ,they know better than to leave a heavy door like that upright with a child in the house.he only lightly touched it and it fell.--------------------  |

Not doubting the gaming, but did you feel a "burning" sensation as you became aware and moved to save your son? Like I said, I'm not doubting you, but I will say that I have been in similiar situations (roughly speaking) and I'd bet what really happened is that your senses had your body respond before your mind. This has happened to me a couple of times, and all I can really remember from either is a "burning" sensation along my spine. I believe it's the "sixth" sense. I think it's instinct working.

Good job saving your son Undead. I'm glad you were there...right time, right place. Periferial vision..and parential instinct....all come into play. Sounds like the workers left an unsafe work place for you and your son, let them have it.

I'm glad to hear he's unharmed.
I also have a 1 1/'2 old son, his latest thing is sticking things into electrical outlets........gotta watch them like a hawk at that age. UNDEAD 1 "i honestly feel my reflex's from gaming could have been what saved him as i saw a bit of movement and quickly reacted with out hesitating only because i knew my son was in the area of the door.it does show that you could turn your head for one second and something bad could happen." Glad to hear your baby's okay -- great save!!
I also believe that in two near-car accidents, that my quickened gaming reflexes got me out of the way where another vehicle went out of control. In both situations, if I had not perceived the actioin fast enough in my peripheral vision and acted as quickly and smoothly as I did, I would have gotten smashed but good. Since I'm over-50, I think gaming is a great way to keep my brain and reflexes as trim as they can be. -------------------- [img][/img]

dude,
no jokes, my heart was racing as you told the story. I am glad you were quick in your old age to do something. My son is about 2.25 and i have never cared so much for one thing. Now #2 is on the way and it may be a girl and I am dead meat. My goodfellas side would have come out on the "workers" and i would have said nothing, just acted, stupidly. I get wierd protective.... carry one of those tactical extendable batons made of steel when I go for walks with my son so if any sick feck wants a piece, they are not leaving my reach..... |
