Hey Guys and Gals,

Im not a computer genius like allot of you guys and gals are. Right now I have a DSL line in my office. This is where I play from mostly. My current download speed is around 3.0 mbps. And my upload speed is about 430 kbps. My new provider Im looking to start with is offering me a T1 where my download and upload speed will be about 1.544 mbps. Im losing on the download, but gaining on the upload. Do you guys think that this will improve or take away from my gaming experience?

many factors come into play here nothing. yes you will loose on the d/l side, you will be gaining on the up as well. in terms of improving your game play however it will solely depend upon the latency of your provider's system vs your current connections'. to explain further, i have seen some dsl connection with poor gaming latency and some with superb. i have seldom seen a T1 connection with poor latency however. a T1 connection is in essence a commercial grade pipe to the net. modern day broadband providers have been pushing their system to faster and faster speeds but using a grouped pool of bandwidth between a subnet of users but with a T1 you escape this condition as you are buying a dedicated connection usually with constant speed guaranties.

i for one would enjoy the use of a personal T as it would allow for a static IP (great for hosting a site without a redirect) and considerable greater upload speeds for say hummm bit-torrent : ). my guess would be that your experience will be better with the T1 then the dsl and if you reasonably close to chicago (geographically) you might expect to see pings in the 40's-50's but 30's wouldn't surprise me either. if the cost is comparable and you didn't have to lock into a long term deal i would certainly give it a shot.

LOL, Im very close to Chicago. Im like 20 miles from Chicago. I think my ping was currently around the 40's. I did however from time to time get some lag spikes. Hopefully with the T1, I will not see much lag anymore.

I am set to get this T1 set up next week Wednesday. Cant wait to try it out for the first time!

Thanks for you input on it Overheated.

To add to the point, the speeds listed for either type up or down are well above COD's ceiling for bandwidth usage. Generally, games use AT MOST roughly 100-120 up and down.

Considering your ping before, I don't think there is going to be much upside, but I could be wrong. There will be no downside for gaming, but maybe for big downloads.

hey nothing...i used to have a T1 in my house...yeah seriously i did...i knew the owner of the local internet company and he hooked me up ohmy.gif) and there i lived about 2.5 ours from chicago and had pings of about 20 or better. so your ping should be good and your connection stable...depending upon who your provider is. overheated gave a good explanation but, is your going to be managed or unmanaged? do you know?

Yea, I did get it. I did notice my ping is a little lower, but not really much improvement. I guess my DSL line I had was not that bad. The reason I chose the T1 was for my office needs though, not the gaming, lol. Although I was hoping it would make the gaming better, lol.

Definately it helped when I send large e-mails. I do notice it is much faster.
