I know not what you all watch on the television, but I am one of the millions that made Tony and his family mine for 8.5 years. I was baffled by the end, and will not go any further, incase of anyone who has not seen it yet....

oh man... don't get started flatty. that was about - no wait - that was the lamest finale that i can think of. damit.... to be honest the finale for Gilligans island smoked the sopranos last episode. i was hopping for so much more. i take consolation in the fact of just HOW lame it was in the hopes that without the loss of any more major characters perhaps it will get revived at some point and give me back my sunday night addiction.

DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN IT

I loved it ... i thought it was quite poignant ... because it left all the viewers just like they live - not knowing what is going to happen next. That's the most realistic ending they could have had imo.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

UNDEAD SMELLS

to me,
the more i think about it, the more i love it. I was so mad, literally hopping up and down on my couch slightly (very) drunk. I cursed, i fell, i shook a closed fist at the television. I know now, that we, us as viewers, were the ones who were killed. Tony is still there, with his family, but we are dead to them, they are done with us. THe show is still going on and on and on and on.....just like steve perry says, it is just without any of us.

I was severely dissapointed by that ending. I thought (apparently as many others did) that this was to leave a spot open for a movie, but after reading the interview with the creator of the show saying that was simply not the case,I find myself....let down.

READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAST EPISODE YET!!!! SPOLIERS!!!

Then again, how were they supposed to end it?

I suppose that was about the only way to end it. What? have Tony whacked? They already said they'd never end the show that way. They cant have him turn on his crew; he might have a small conscience now, but never that much of one.I think they were kind of forced to have an amiable ending for the show. I'm just sorry they chose to smoke Syl instead of Paulie. Paulie always been such a freaky scuzz bag, and Sylvio always seemed like the more decent out of the bunch, you know? After all, they never really showed him kill Adriana, and he did have a soft spot for her, so maybe he let her go. I was sure they were bringing her back for the final episode, was kind of dissapointed about that too.

Leaving you on the edge of your seat with the suspicious looking guys in the restaurant at the close sucked though. Did anyone else pick up on the "godfather vibe" of that scene? kind of reminiscent of Michael going to the bathroom to get the gun?

What about the final scene with Janice? HELOOOOOOO LYVIA!! Jeez that was scary.

Oh well, at least "Rescue Me" starts tonight.

I've been a loyal fan over the years and I felt a bit let down. Not just by the ending, but there were a few loose strings that weren't covered. I guess that's part of the show just ending though, like we're getting cut off from the feed and life keeps going on.

Spoiler, do not read if you don't want to know.

So when the ending happened, my very first reaction was that life goes on. This was just another day in the life of Tony Soprano. But then we watched it again and Chase had filled that diner with a lot of old enemies. So, the guy that gets up to go to the bathroom in the end is Phil Leotardo's nephew or something, check the credits and you'll see. So now that I think about it, this whole time we've been watching the Sopranos kind of through Tony. So if Leotardo comes out of the bathroom with a gun and shoots Tony in the head, we fade to black. Remember the conversations, twice and then one flashback, to Tony's conversation with Bobby where he's saying you never even hear the shot coming.

All and all, I think it's a "choose your own adventure" type ending. The fans get to choose what they think happened. I didn't like the last 5 minutes though, seemed like Chase was tossing too many possibilities in there where people were going to die, but I was on the edge of my seat.

The best part was Phil's hit, I loved it... I was laughing so hard and Tivo'd back atleast 5 times.

Oh pezzy you let me down. I was so waiting for your post. In the credits, unless Phil's nephew is named "man in members only jacket" than this was not some nephew. Not to mention, if Phil had a nephew, he would have been at the big "wake/party" at the bar like the rest of Phils family, and we would have recognized him.

The has grown on me. It literally shows what tony goes through every day. Everone is a suspect, he barely batted an eye at the man in the members only jacket. We were forced to look at him. The dude in the USA hat could have been starting at him, but we would never know, because Chase made us focus on the guy who looked italian, who looked like a hitman, who in the end just was a guy who had to pee. All of the speculation on the last scene is null and void. The 2 black guys were not the guys who tried to kill him last time, unless one can come back from the dead. The trucker dude would have no reason to do anything, but there is the cubscouts....

They sent 2 guys to hit Bobby and they just walked up and killed him. They sent 2 guys to kill Silvio and they just pulled up and killed him. But for Tony, they sent 1 guy who will sneak up on him? Nah. Does not fit the "we are taking over" plan New York would use.

We were not shown the whole series through Tony, or we would have never seen the other plots. He was a main focus, but not the only story line.

We were shown how Tony Soprano can deal with the possibilty of death around each corner with ease. How he deals with impending jail time, and the worries of his wife and kids with that "tony" way of shrugging it off. He is used to it. We are not. We always want to be part of these mafia families and we were drawn into the sopranos like a member of thier family, and just like that, Chase really made us members of it. WE were killed off. It sucks to die I am sure, but this is what death would be like if it were rational. You do not get to see them anymore...

COme on PEZ!!! Get that big creative brain going!!!

I read this on another forum and it goes with what some of you guys are saying....

No need for an alternate ending - Chase's ending was crystal clear. Tony was taken out as Meadow entered the diner. The viewers have always seen the episodes from Tony's point of view. The screen went black and there was nothing but silence. That is what Tony sees and hears when he finally gets killed. Remember the conversation with Bobby at the lake? "I wonder if you hear the one that gets you". He never heard the one that killed him.....

Also if you look right when meadow enters he touches the music flip thing again right before it goes black...just another thing to think about...Like you guys I really hated the ending at first but the more I think about it the more I think it is pure genious....Its thought prevoking and thats why I liked it.

Like I said, I think they left it open for the viewer to decide the ending. I'm not saying Tony is dead, but I'm not saying he's alive either. Kind of left it open. I like the fact that danger can be lurking, etc... but it also seemed to have a lot of that danger in one diner on that one night. I think there's evidence that could show credibility to Tony being shot, but also to him living. Sometimes I wish Chase had just written an ending, but I think this discussion throughout many forums is what they were looking for. Will people remember it for always and always? I still like the Six Feet Under ending the best... all time best.

I was on Nj.com immediately after it ended. It is the biggest sopranos blog out there... so much speculation.

there is so much over analysis and it gets nuts. If they kill him, there would be a bunch of "Goodbye Tony" pages on monday and it would all be over by now. This will stick with us for a while and that is why it is great. Americans love closure and it kills us that there is no real END.

It will drive us all nuts.

Six feet was great, from what I can remember...

I found this funny. People are already using the Sopranos finale as an example of what they won't do when they end their own series.

'Lost' producers: We won't end like 'Sopranos'
