As a big fan of J.R.R. Tolkien books, i was also happy with the movies base on the books.
There is only soo much you can take from the books and put into a movie, and I think Peter Jackson did
one hell of a job making these films. But we are hear to talk about what started all of these other books JRR Tolkien wrote, The Hobbitt. He wrote the book for his son, when Tolkien was fighting the germans in WWI.
As a kid i love the hobbitt, got like 4 books of the hobbitt lol and all 3 books on LotR and other books base on lord of the rings.
After watching the movies I said to my friends i hope they make the Hobbitt.

Sam Raimi is the director

I'm pretty sure your the only Tolkein or LOTR fan out there. (dripping sarcasm).

Can't wait for the Hobbitt also. Have you read the new novel put out by his son?

I was just talking to someone today about if they were making this. I sort of feel like they missed the boat since all the buzz is gone from the LOTR series. I can't wait to see it myself though. Should be good.

The problem was an argument between new line cin and peter Jackson over monies from lotr ,the hobbit was already supposed to be in production a year ago. sam rami was asked and he said he would except the directors chair if Jackson gave his consent. i personally think new line is screwing up because although rami is a great director ,it took a serious fan that was anal about the details to make the lotr movies great,i still hear true fans of the books complaining they left things out.

dont know what kind of monies they could be arguing about ,greedy imo, fans are going to suffer once again sad.gif .

Sure they left lotsa stuff out, but consider producers and directors tend to butcher and misconstrue a books story in making a film I was very pleased with the movies. I can't help but think the Rami understands what they did right with LOTR. I would hope that he surrounds himself with same writters and assistants that Jackson did to maintain constitancy. Can't wait for the release in fall of 2011 (my guess).

i remember watching a scene from the making of lotr and the scene with gollum in the stream chasing a fish .jackson had them melt all the snow and ice ,with portable heaters , on and around the stream ,which took all day because this was the stream he pictured in reading the book .i just dont think another director can have this attention to detail.

the hobbit for me is extremely important.the first movie i saw was star wars which effected me to this day . the first novel i read (age 10) was the hobbit which led to lotr trilogy and has effected me to this day as well. many attempts at lotr have been made with horrible results i was relieved kinda ,when the lotr didnt suck . im hoping they dont rush it or tighten the wallet on the movie ,this movie is more important than lotr imo.sorry for the novel.

To me they HAD to leave out tons of stuff. Tolkien described every blade of grass, leaf, and rock with 7 adjectives. Had they included everything the movie would have been so insanely long it would be unwatchable IMO. I know I'm usually somewhat disappointed when I see a movie from a great book I've read. I can't say that about LOTR. I think they did great. Anyone else have any epic tales they'd like to see in the movies? I'd love to see them take a go at Stephen King's the Dark Tower. Don't know how they'd ever do it as it's so long and they'd certainly have to leave out so much....

Thats true Geno, the books are long and they would have to make like 2 movies per book.

But i think peter did a good job with lotr and i hope this new guy does a good job with the hobbitt.

I AGREE AS WELL. every monday night at my bar we talk about movies and it always comes up about how much stuff they left out on lotr, exactly like you said ,it would be 5 -3+hr movies zzzzzzz. they did a perfect job in making it very action packed while staying true to the book .

funny- the first time i saw the hobbit ,i saw it on a special as a cartoon in the late 70s early 80s . im a collector and traked these movies down, funny to re watch.

geno ,there is no way they can do dark tower ,no fn way! imo they have completley destroyed every stephen king book except the shinning and they made a valient effort with "the stand".

They'd never do it justice but I'd love to see it. Would certainly be a trip.
