I was watching some old WWII movies and i watch this one only for the 2nd time
and i have to say that it was damn good. I think that most of the good WWII movies where made back in the late 70's and 80's Some of the new movies are ok. What do some of you WW2 movie fans think>? -------------------- ![]() Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else. |

Wile not technically a movie, "Band of Brothers" is my favorite. Although I know it was kind of cheesy, my favorite older movie is "Kelly's Heroes". I liked it becasue it was the first movie to use real Shermans & real Tigers. "The Battle of Britain" and "Das Boot" were also very good. Has anyone been watching Ken Burn's "The War" that has been showing on PBS the past week? Really really good stuff!

I saw "The Great Escape" the other night, which was interesting because it was based on real events. Kind of funnywatching an old 60's movie, but I enjoyed it.
FYI, Das Boot comes in two versions. A 3 hour movie, which was actually editted from a 6 or 7 hour miniseries (rough numbers). I saw the movie. It was fairly good. Another good movie was "Shaving Ryan's Privates"...oops, I uh, er mean "Saving Private Ryan". Err, yeah. -------------------- ![]() |

Another one for Bridge Too Far, a great movie about operation market garden.
A movie a lot of people probably haven't seen or don't remember "Tora Tora Tora" An almost documentary accurate look at Pearl harbor. It won an academy award for best special effects, way ahead of it's time. Several later movies used footage from Tora because it was so good for it's time (1970's) While not a movie, it's worth a mention. For those who liked Band of Brothers You may want to get the book "Beyond Band of Brothers" Written by Major Dick Winters, Easy Company's commanding officer. Not as entertianing as Band of Brothers but an inspiring look at what they went through. |

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. It's the WWII movie that i always wanted to made. Seems like from real accounts of D-Day to be the closest to catch the actual gore and violence that faced those guys. As a kid though, really liked Bridge Too Far, Tora Tora Tora and Midway.
But why has no one mentioned that amazing movie Pearl Harbor. Come on people, it had top notch actors like Ben Affleck and a tight story line - true cinematic genius. |

1. Bridge Too Far
2. Band of Brothers 3. Kelly's heroes. Nobody has mentioned that other classic Eastwood movie "Where Eagle Dare" or "The Guns of Navaronne" Both awesome movies. Cross, i agree with you, "Enemy at The gates" was amazing. |
