I read this on one of the dozen forums I frequent which have discussions about current events.
The discussion was about "how bad" things are now, mainly pointing to Iraq War Global warming Their point was things have never been as bad as they are right now Someone replied back with this. ============================================= Let's see. My grandmother lived through the following: The First World War The first red scare The complete collapse of the global economy The Second World War The Holocaust The Japanese threat The German threat The second red scare The threat of nuclear annihilation Mob-related violence The Cuban missile crisis The assassination of a US president The civil rights movement (which nearly tore the country apart) Vietnam The fuel crisis of the 70's =============================================== I though it was very interesting change of perspective. |

.... Their point was things have never been as bad as they are right now .............. True dat ... though People only have to be somewhat history savvy to realise its the same old song over and over again through the recent ages... It's kind of peculiar people seem to forget terror campaigns waged by various terror groups all over the world in the 70s. I am a bit surprised we got through the nuclear arms race of the 1980s. That phase in mankind's history makes Bum Laden look like he's plaing in the garden of eden -pardon my being frivolous, but how many times over could we have obliterated our entire Earth with all the nukes set to be launched.....I believe it was dozens+ http://archive.peacemagazine.org/v13n1p20.htm Forunately human sanity at the doomsday controls often prevailed to rectify where 'defence' computers had given WW3 alerts regarding false nuclear strikes. There was one very very scary incident regarding a Rusky stand down recently revealed. Its not in the links I listed- I saw it on a tv documentary.... A rusky at nule version of defcon4 saw a whole bunch of missiles on radar coming to hit ruskyland... he never even informed his superiors! He was convinced it was an error -of course it turned out to be, but by all rights the Ruskiz should've been all set to fire of a massive retaliation strike - I think the guy ended up let off by just being fired [nooo, not firing squad]. http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/Ar...rol/Nuclear.asp http://www.wagingpeace.org/articles/1998/0..._20-mishaps.htm This post has been edited by Hellfighter: 04/15/08 2:34pm -------------------- ![]() ![]() |
