I just sold my Accord and it hit me as I was signing over the title, I had the car for 14 years.
What's the longest anyone else has kept a car?
I didn't give it much thought before hand, now I kind of miss it.
I almost backed out of selling it at the last minute because I felt a weird compulsion to drive it another 4000 miles to make it to an even 250,000
Damn reliable car, in all that time the only work I had done besides regular maintenance was
1) Replaced a burned out relay
2) Distributor
3) Charge the AC

I don't think I've weaseled more than 7 years out of a vehicle.
However, I've been shaving with the same Gillette Atra since 1987.
No lie. biggrin.gif

I never owned a "new car". I had a car a few years old. had that till it was totaled 2 yrs later. have had the titanic... (stfu shred) for 3 years now. I just need to buy a few new anchors and a new ruttier.

I am thinking of buying a new car when the gas prices settle or alternative fuel is decided on. The air car is coming to S.CA in 08/09. Prius to be upgraded in 09, 100+ by 2011. I dont want to buy a new car until something happens with he fuel. knowing my luck I will buy a great car and everyone will switch to cow farts. that will piss me off.

My 81 Chevy Malibu that i spent forever working on (Chevy 350 -4 bolt main, fireball 2 290 high cam, edlebrock 700 cfm carb, ceramic headers, 373 rear gear ratio, roller rocker, grear timing components, and a .99 cent paint job from big lots... don't laugh thing fucking flew! (also gas was cheaper) I threw a rod racing a mustang... took the cam and the last 2 cyl with it. i fucking cried, it was like losing a parent.

still mis that car, I spent so much time on it....

I've never bought a new car.
The Accord was a '91 but I didn't buy it until '94

I'm more than happy to let someone else have the "joy" of buying the car new while it depreciates 15-25%
in the first 18 months.
The new car smell isn't worth that much, not when you're able to buy it in a can for $5.
For example, a few months ago the wife bought a 2005 Sienna with only 15,000 miles on it, but was $6000 less than it originally sold for.

The longest has been 4 years, but I sold that to lease my Explorer. After they take it back I'll get a used Explorer.

My first two cars were used and didn't last long. I then went about 10 years without owning a car. One day I added up how much I spent on cab fare and realised I could get a pretty nice car for that money. That was my first Explorer. I loved that thing soooooo much. I traded it in and got a 4 door Explorer (the first was a Sport). There was nothing wrong with the second one except I paid too much for it and missed the old one. Eventually I sold that one and leased my new Explorer XLT with the 3rd row seats. I like it a lot, but I'll be happy when they take it back and I'll buy a low milage trade in of some sort.

Hey Dead I've heard that about Jetta's. Counting my inlaw's we've owned 5 count'em 5 mitsubishi galant's. For a total of about 750k miles on them. Never done anything other than regular maintenance. Not flashy or expensive but they seem to run forever and require very little service.

seriously ,everything fell apart .all the windows broke, the glove box handle came off ,the radio fried -then fried my a/c , the trunk stopped working (electrical) some of the locks would sometimes lock -sometimes not.i started to think the tranny was going to go but the alternator beat him to it,sold it for a 1000 in 3 hours-as is.
