Ummm... where did everyone go lately!!! sad.gif

Well I think McCain clearly won last night's debate.

Obama though did what he had to in playing safe like a boxer up on points in a prizefight - staying in defensive mode-not getting cocky and avoiding getting a surprise K.O on himself.

I'm pretty sure half of Wall St. are fully stocked on with crates of coke to tide them over.

I have no faith in McCain's 'no new taxes' pipedream- remember the first Bush saying that.
"Fool me twice" thing.....

"Joe the Plumber" his name isn't "Joe" (it is Sam), he is not a plumber (he calls himself a contractor) and he isn't even registered to vote and he is a tax scofflaw!

In actuality, he was yet another stunt by the McCain campaign, and just like Sarah Palin, he wasn't fully vetted.

Perhaps he should have been McCain's pick for vice president, he certainly seems better prepared to answer the press's questions, and unlike Palin, he actually will hold a press conference!

I was stunned to see the venerable Chicago Tribune endorse Obama for president. This from a newspaper that had never endorsed a Democratic candidate for president.

The Fat Lady will start clearing her throat this weekend if former Secretary of State Colin Powell comes out as expected and endorses Obama on Meet the Press. I predict that will open the floodgates of similar Republican endorsements. Your mileage may vary.

One last thing ... here is a fun test to see if you get too much of your news from talking heads. I scored 10 out of 10 which tells me I need to stop Jonesing the cable news shows.

Hamma, did you see Sarah was in Maine yesterday and she wouldn't talk to WCSH unless she could pick the interviewer? Lol. She is afraid of Rob Caldwell. Obama talked to him.

Yeah, I also saw that when her husband was in Maine he refused to speak with the press, and only talked briefly with one "reporter" from a Bangor station. He did so, allegedly, because she looks like his wife. The reporter's first question: "Can I have your autograph." But, get this, the hack brought out a composite photograph she had dragged along to the event that showed herself next to Sarah Palin.

So much for the bullshit that the media is in the tank for Obama. And so much for the ethics of "journalists" in Maine.

Peggy Noonan, the woman who put so many elegant words in the mouth of Ronald Reagan as his speechwriter, has produced an impressive column that is worth taking a moment to read.

She ends the thoughtful piece with a discussion of the infighting that is taking place in conservative publications as various people rebel against the "new vulgarization in American politics." She closes by writing, "They bitterly attacked those who came to stand against the Bush administration. This was destructive. If they had stood for conservative principle and the full expression of views, instead of attempting to silence those who opposed mere party, their movement, and the party, would be in a better, and healthier, position."

She has hit the proverbial nail on the head. The party is not the grand principal. We've seemingly lost our ability in this great country of ours to have rational discussion of policy. McCain's campaign has come to represent the divisive politics that has torn our nation apart philosophically, has lead to gridlock in the Congress and left a feeble president virtually ignored and powerless as he waits out his final days in office.

Once again, I'd like to salute you guys for taking part in a respectful discussion of the issues in this forum. I wish we had more venues for discussion of this sort and less of Noonan's vulgarization.
