I got banned from your server last nite?

I was playing last nite with my friend and then i left and went to bed woke up and tried to connect and it says ive been permanently banned?

ummm i just want to know why i was banned and if i can get unbanned, ur server was the only server i pubbed in, if not ill just have to find a new pub server..

Well after a little investigating I found the problem.
Guid = Globally Unique Identifier

The problem is with COD2 it's flawed because it's global but not Unique.
The Guid for COD2 is only 6 digits based on the cd-key, giving only 1,000,000 combinations unlike
a PB Guid which has 10 gazillion combinations.
Someone else was banned who out of pure chance shared your guid.

I've fixed the problem but it won't take effect until the server is restarted ( sometime tomorrow morning )

In your case I racked it up to a freak occurance of 2 players sharing the same guid.
Even with the large amount of people who have played on our server it should be extremely unlikely 2 people would share a guid.
After going through logs I found dozens of people sharing guid's
I'm guessing IW or activision screwed up on whatever algorithm they used to make a players guid from their cd key or maybe it only uses a part of the cdkey versus the whole key.
Either way I highly doubt guid's are spread along the limited possiblites of 1,000,000 I would now guess it's only a fraction of that.

lol, if thats true, hopefully pb will have a guid too, otherwise thatll create some mass confusion on ladders with smurfing and players being on 2 teams and what not.

There has already been some discussion on the COD2 ladder forums about how guids are pointless right now for anti-smurfing.
Even worse, there is a random issue causing guids not to be reported correctly.
All will be fixed with pb when relelase, it will use the same 32 bit hexadecimal guid.

Cod2 guid = 1,000,000 possible guids
COD2 with PB = 470,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Not much chance two people will share the same GUID
