having some problems on stocks and barb lately-slow loading the maps ,alot of lag ,999 ping and i usually run at 50s.heres some screenies is it my conn or yours? even thoug the second says im at fps i had alot of lag?

That 2nd pic says you were not lagging at all...... And damn I wish we got 85 fps...

but thats the weird thing,i was ! and it took like 2 minutes to load the map-infact when i finnaly finished loading they had allready opend base 2.

Cross was having all kinds of problems last night as well. I was convinced that it was due to network problems somewhere.

He did a traceroute and found he was bouncing from the UK to NY to LA to Dallas to Chicago. Not a very direct route! I did a traceroute and found myself terminating not in Chicaog, but in Broomfield, Colorado which is where the ARIN Name Server resides. Perhaps there are some experts here who can shed some light on this, but to my untrained eyes, the internet was FUBAR last night.

Hammatime when your traceroute was ending in Colorado , where you using the server IP address or something else?

Well laste night was a bloody joke on the server,nothing but V.HIGH pings on all maps and/or bloody PB violations.

At one point there where 6 players with 999 ping .

thought it weird to have 86 fps and so laggy i couldnt drv the tank ,hehe! barb was the same way and when i left i stopped on another server to see if it were me and all was well (dont know where that servers out of though so doesnt make a diff).

My trace route was going from UK -LA -LA-LA-Dallas-Chicargo and then Wassington DC......you could say I got around alot that night.

IN general i think the pings have been alot high these last week or two? i usually run in the 50s and now 120 to 200s.

My pings have remained fairly good, but my fps while usually average and sometimes good, more often than not take a severe beating - at the wrong times in battle too

I have had very simular experiences lately. I have done several tracerts to find I was acually being re-routed to other states once I made it to Chicago. But even when I wasn't pinging bad, I would have several lag spikes during the game and like Hellfighter, mostly at a very important time.

I also find that this happens more often while driving tanks. Particulaly the heavy while it is going up a hill. Not sure that makes any difference. All I know is, I have more than capable hardware to run the game. It is driving me nuts.......................

this is probably a dumb question but does anyone use a wireless connection?is it better? i have comcast and a very good connection 5.3 mbps but i am still laggy sometimes (even with 80+fps ).rien still f**cks with my com. and i used to load in seconds now its a minute or two (must be old age) hehe.

i do agree with you guys on certain time lag.sometimes ill run behind a player and get stuck in his lag, weird.

i still use 512 ddr sd ram -is that the prob? i cant even play red orchestra because of it.

I use a wireless connection. Works great until my wife decides to use the microwave. When she does, I get Connection Interrupt errors. During TWL matches, I'll pull out the Ethernet cable and hook up directly to my cable modem just in case.

As for performance, I see no difference using the wireless connection vs. wired. I've had my two nephews here playing on the wireless network and with three of us pounding on it, we'll notice a slight lag, but never a problem with just one or two.

the only problem with wireless "besides the microwave lmao" is, anyone can pull within 100 feet of your house and steal your signal.

I found that out this x-mas when I got the wife a new laptop. It has wireless and we are able to pick up at least 4 wireless signals in the hood lol. Of course, we use cable, but I thought that was kinda funny. I have since stopped "stealing" signal.

Good idea. Someone was just charged with stealing wireless. They got a $250 ticket and a year's court supervision! Story here.

The people who should be fined are the dolts who don't secure their wireless network. How difficult is it to password protect your network ... not very ... but, then again, I use a Apple's Airport Base Station and Extreme so it is easy as pie. Apple sure knows how to make secure computers!

No, for example, COD2 is just about to be released for Mac ... it's been a long wait. Game development for the Mac is in flux right now because of the Mac's transition to the Intel chip. If you are Windows based, this is an ideal time to consider the switch to Mac because of that transition - soon most everything that can run on Windows will be able to run on the Mac. But, that transition has brought with it a host of new security concerns.

It has been awfully nice these past 30 years to be virtually virus free. To give you an idea of how secure a networked Mac has been, I've NEVER owned any virus protection software and I do a phenomenal amount of online business (I'm a photographer, so not only am I buying equipment online, I'm delivering my product online). Historically, Apple machines have been priced higher than comparable Windows machines, but the cost of maintaining those machines is much, much lower.

If you are interested, check out the new iMacs. These are incredible computers. They are to computers what the iPod is to music. The entire computer resides inside the flatscreen monitor. There is nothing but a monitor, keyboard and mouse. They run silently. You can't tell when they are on - no noise. One thing often overlooked is that Apple has designed these machines to be completely user servicable. If there is a problem, you don't have to pack up your computer and send it off (Note: I've owned Macs for 30 years and NEVER had to have one serviced). If there is a problem, you pop open the back and every component simply pops out. If the power supply goes on the fritz, Apple sends you a new one. You pop out the old one and ship it back using their pre-paid shipping label. This company does things right!

Apple has always been ahead of the rest of the pack when it comes to innovation.
For those who don't know your computer history it's been this way pretty much from the beginning.
Someday watch the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley", it's a very interesting look at how Bill Gates and Microsoft are the biggest hacks known in history. You have to give Bill credit, his vision and some stolen ideas from Apple has made him rich.
Several years ago Apple intoduced a new type of computer case.
When I 1st saw it, I thought to myself why hadn't anyone ever thought of it before.
For anyone who has ever had to work on a PC computer, it's cramped and a mess of wires.
The case Apple designed made it so the guts of the computer folded out for easy access to everything versus a PC where all the components are built onto the motherboard sitting inside the cramped case.

I'm sure once the software has a little time to mature, Apple will have a big hit with their new iMac's.
If for no other reason, there are going to be a lot of people who love the look of this computer.
Only a little bigger than a standard flatscreen monitor & no mess of wires.
The only wire will be the power line as the mouse and keyboard are bluetooth.
The only two mistakes I see,
512 MB of memory by default, should of been a gig
They should of put some of the extra ports on the front of the screen not behind it.

I did like that tv movie and i have been looking at the page hamma sent me (apple store) but thats my biggest problem is i need more than 512,thats what i currnetly have.i am def interested in mac and going to make a purchase within the next couple of months.

also thanks for the help with my connection woes,last night was the worse yet!i called comcast today and raised holly hell and they are coming in the a.m. i have an allright comp and is usually pretty good with any game i run,i used to run inbetween 4 and 5 mbps then when i wrote this post it was 3.8mb and last night i checked it it was 1.5 mb and when i called them today they said they show no problems, i was running at 217 kbps ,i dont think thats as fast as dial up?

FYI, but all wireless LANs are insecure. Even Apple's AirPort.

Having a password (a.k.a. WEP encryption key) will slow people down from using your wireless LAN, but the key is easily sniffed off the wire (or broken, not sure of the full details, read old issues of CRYPTO-GRAM mailing list for more info). There are pre-made programs that will break the keys and allow you to get onto a particular wireless LAN.

Limiting your wireless LAN to only allow certain MAC addresses is also an option. But it's only a speed bump (not even as strong as the WEP key).

Other folks will tell you not to broadcast the SSID. Again, which helps. It keeps you from showing up in the listing on WinXP machines, but a more determined attacker can sniff the SSID off the air and connect directly.

Not to mention the traffic sniffing potentials.

The only secure Wireless LAN is one that puts the access point on a separate piece of network topology and requires that you VPN into your network through a firewall. Which is the same theory with the public internet, using VPNs to cross routers / networks that you don't trust.

You're right Druid, 512MB just doesn't cut it. That's barely enough to run the OS.

As a gaming platform, the biggest diss on the iMac has to be the underpowered graphics card. 128MB VRAMon the 17" produces some decent framerates, but it isn't a great option on the 20". You have to purchase directly from Apple to get the option of upgrading the 20" to a 256MB VRAM card for an additional $75. The Apple Store also offers four tiers of RAM, up to 2GB for an additional **gulp** $300. The box is so damn user-friendly, however, anyone can buy additional RAM and add it themselves.

This is obviously one area where Apple marketing has stumbled. How many people are going to know that they can't purchase a true game box through a third-party reseller?

Undead, if you are looking to save money, I've had real good luck with the Apple Store's refurbished machines. You save a ton of money and most all of the computers sold through here are brand spanking new. I've helped family and friends purchase six computers (desktops and Powerbooks) and have yet to have a bad experience. All the machines worked perfectly with absolutely no evidence that they were "refurbished." Go to the Apple Store and look for the red "Save" tag on the lower right. You have to keep checking back as their stock varies widely.

I would say about 75% of my computer purchases have been refurb's, not just mine but the stuff I buy for other people. For me refurbs are the way to go, big price break & it's good as new.
For those who don't know,. 90% of stuff sold as refurbished has never had a problem.
It mostly open box stuff people have returned for a variety of reasons, ordered the wrong thing or changed their mind. Depending on the manufacturer, the majority of the stuff that's returned goes through a more rigorous serious of test before being sold as refurbished than it did the 1st time it left the factory.

They do the samething in the UK aswell for returned items,just to make sure that no-one has changed anything in side them to old stuff and taken out the new stuff ,then sent it back.
