Hey all!

I'm a little disappointed to hear tonight that the new call of duty 2 does not have base assault in multiplayer! WTF!!! I'm hoping one of you guys can tell me if this is so and why! So far looks like i'll be sticking to united offense if this is the case!

I would assume the modding comumminty will find a way to add something like base assault.
What I'm more worried about it COD2 will have no out of the box cheat protection, even worse Activision has refused to answer the question if PunkBuster will be added in a future patch.

From reviews of the game there are massive (single player) tank battles for N. Africa. I imagine an expansion will include BA or a new tank battle for multiplayer.

im sure if it doesnt they could always add it with a patch later.

Yea, i doubt they're gonna scare away the fans of CoD... They no we love tanks! But wish multiplayer would be more squad based like sticking together more often and stuff instead of spreading out and getting killed cuz u're by urself...

No big suprise really.....think of it from an economic model....Activison wants to continue sales of COD-UO when it rolls out COD2. If it had included BAS up front, it would dry up sales of UO and the possibility of getting you to buy the eventual expansion that would be released 9-12 months down the road....



Sequels are rarely ever as good as the original if the original was awesome to begin with.....Civilization is a worthy exception, and the Half life series is good. I fear that COD2 may look pretty, but have some nasty bugs and game-play differences that may poison the market they are trying to reach out to with.....time will tell on that one....

You raise a good point Leadmagnet, I neglected to look at it that way and hopefully sooner than later they will add a BA patch or expansion, and until then I guess I'll stick to old faithful and see you all on the MOB BA servers.

Heck. I'll play CoD2 no matter what. The gameplay is good and i won't let having no BA ruin it. I'll play CoD2 and wait for expansion. I heard they had a CoD3 comin soon.

Base assualt is not the only good game type for multiplayer. Although it is a great one, I don't think it is necessary. And lead brings up a good point. I think sales of UO will still be up regardless of the BAS deprivation. And who knows, maybe there are other game types to be added as patches are released.

And after all, although tanks are fun to play with, I sometimes think it takes away from the game. The fact that the COD original was so amazing when it came out as a first person shooter, that some of the skill (not all) was taken out when tanks were added as it requires less aim, more protection, etc.

i'm getting it for the TDM myself i just hope they do punkbuster for an anticheat soon tho. other wise i'll be setting in spec forever

unless several issues are addressed in an upcoming patch COD2 is going to be a poor replacement for COD:OU.
I think most people are going to be disappointed as COD2 is more of a continuation of COD than it is of COD:OU

It doesn't look good when there are two topics on IW's site, one dealing with what people like and one with what they hate. So far, the good thread is 6 post the bad thread is now 5 pages.
Worse of all, with no PB support it will only be a week before cheats made for COD and COD:UO ( never used because of PB ) will be ported to COD2, cheating will be more rampant than it ever was in mohaa.
Do to the style of play, I think cheaters will have even more of a negative impact on servers than they did with AA.
For those of you playing COD2, enjoy it now because next week you have a hard time finishing a game before some script kiddy comes in to ruin it.

I was dying to buy this game on the 25th when it came out, I'm glad no one had it in stock until today so I didn't end up wasting my money.

i think they'll come out with an anticheat because they dont want an eagames downfall

if they get an anticheat going its going to be a real solid game. I love it already. i have only been playing for an hour or so

Until today, IW and Activision had refused to say if PB would be added later in a patch.
Today one of them in an IM interview said "the killcam and the pure setting should be enough to stop cheating"
This is the exact same pure setting in COD which was bypassed within hours of the intial release.

will the game is dead then way to go activision and IW glad i wasted 50 bucks

It came out for me a few days ago but i can't buy it yet. Although I want to... Money.. Opeth... He randomly comes and talks about BF2...

These are multiplaytypes for COD2, squad warfare sounds interesting. Maybe it will replace BAS at beginnig until BAS is added to COD2???

See here's my question. Is everyone sure there is even going to be an expansion for cod2? I mean, they are working on cod3 as we speak. And with that in production, are they even gonna bother with an expansion for 2? I dont know, just some concerns with it i guess.

Maybe we should have an alternating gametype and maps for now and get feedback as to just TDM, DM, Squad etc.

I do love TDM though but just to get used to it all might be an idea, maybe add an option to vote (majority rules) for different gametype or something.
