RAM's the usual culprit for larger maps. Video lag you can fix by turning settings down (or buying a better card) but if you've run out of RAM things get messy.
How much RAM are you running now? 256MB, 512MB, 1024MB?
Check Task Manager. Look at the Performance Tab. Down in the lower-left is "Commit Charge(K)" which tells you how much RAM+swap you have, how much is in use and what your peak value is. If the peak value > installed RAM then you're swapping to the hard drive and you should install more RAM.
Actually, I have been lagging quite a bit on Barb this last week. I dont need any upgrades on my comp as it is very good already, lol. I think there must be some problems with the server lately.
SCRUFF,there was a post here on forums with alot of tweeks for your comp and it helped me alot, especially on rein valley (lag valley).cant find it any more though, bobs the pro!

I did this tweak outlined by Cross in this link yesterday and I was hardly lagging in Cassino or Barb; I think it may help the lag issue. I usually have a good ping when on, but am susceptible to similar draining lag> yesterday I had a good sigh of relief - helped with my 144-65 score in a Cassino round!

Hey HF,
I did it and there is still some lag. Dont know why, but think it may be the server. My comp is pretty up to date.

i'm having a horrible computer problem. i can not get into any game WHAT-SO-EVER in original Call of Duty . and i cannot get into Barb (<---the most frustrating) i'll connect into gameplay and 20 seconds later it either tells me "server disconnected" or "player kicked" but it won't usually tell me why.
its really getting me pissed.
but it has helped me get back into tune with my cassino game. i'm starting to get my touch back there..
but still.
i miss barb
any suggestions - help?
Get a new computer. Its time to find a job and save for one if necessary, lol.

i have 2 jobs . but the main one doesn't start for 3 more weeks. as i have stated too many times now - the money i make is highly unlikely to be going for a computer/laptop (sorry silver, i guess not

)
my gaming time has so drastically decreased i wouldn't be surpised if i didn't show up for almost the whole summer.
and i can't enjoy the next 3 weeks on barb because IT WON'T LOAD !
Sorry to hear that man. Wish you could afford a good comp so we could kick ass on barb.

today was a very frustrating day - as i hardly get time to get on this damn "family" computer. i may just have to buy one of my own after all .
we'll see what summer brings.

Well, sorry to hear that

... I haven't had any big lag probs since I did the tweak, especially when others are going nuts over lagging on Cassino/Barb/Rhine Valley.
I know I lag when Nortons is doing an update in the background, but that's about it now.
I can't blame my ram deficiency except for vent probs and map loading which is horrid enough

.
My comp. specs are 256 ram [pc3200] on a 2.2ghz cpu and an ATI 9200 card > very primitive you might say,
but with my 800x600 res + low sound quality and some effects turned off in my game options, my ping is usually at 50 and fps 30-60... however since I did the tweak, my fps averages 40-80!

question hellfighter, how on earth do i modify that file?
I am retarded when it comes to this stuff.

if you search the forums here i think in server section, real deal and druid (i think) posted a link for some tweaks to help with the lag. i used to have alot of problems on rein valley and when i used that post it really helped-i actually have it on my desk right now but un fortunetly im with out a scanner.if you see me hell, lip, nothing in the a.m like usual i can walk you through on vent.
i do have to agree a little though on the server because ive been running about 35 fps on barb ,every where else 90 fps.
Hey HF,
The specs I have on my comp are AMD 3200. 2 x 512 sticks of ram. GeForce 6800 (256mb) video card. 300 gig hard drive. 5.1 surround sound. I usually get all my maps around 80 to 90 fps. I dont get lag much, but lately have been getting it in Barb.

What happens when it kicks you out?
After you get disconneted, open your console & see if there is an error message.

i tried out cassino with a smaller window (thanks to silver & hell's advice) and i changed up that number thingy that cross told me to
and i got just about hardly any to no lag at times. though, i was really rusty and played like shit, it was so weird playing it without lag... i kept like thinking i needed to shoot like i usually would, but i had to adjust to no lag.
haha.
i'm going to try and see if barb works tomorrow.
