just sitting here watching a debate on CNN about making the INTERNET controlled by government (our world leaders, cell phone co.) its not just the u.s. ,it worries me a little because although its been nixed by congress and the supreme court ,if the right people push it'll get passed. i thought we were heading in the right direction?! cant believe this guy can actually hold a straight face while debating this issue, lol!

whats everyone Else's thoughts on this matter (wondering).

Have u read the books by George Orwell, "1984" and "Animal Farm". There u can see what he think about what the government can do. He was a clever man. rtfm.gif

I haven't read too much about it, but my understanding was not that they wanted to make it so that you pay for everything, but that the bandwidths are open to everyone. From what I understand, and I may be very wrong cuz I haven't researched it too much, they want to make it a so that it is equal for everyone. Nobody has to pay more for a cable connection than anyone else. Basically, everyone would have a "high speed" connection. The people that are against it are the big corporations that make their money off of selling their "better" high speed product.
Like I said, I may be wrong, but that is how I've learned about it.

Well a little wrong.the reason its been shut down in congress etc.. is because (and correct me if im wrong) the SMALL buisness will be wiped out.only the wall marts and sears etc.. will be able to compete with the prices to have their site veiwed. like i said -they want to make it like cable,do you watch pbs or nbc for your news?

when you want to buy something, you can shop online and most likely youll get it cheaper from the little guy .you def have a million FREE music sites,so we know their for regulation.it would cost me money to belong to cod or gaming sites such as this.those of you in canada and europe ,your on board as well.not just u.s.

computers in general or about to become very cheap because of intel and the things ive read about gaming, coming up in the near future is blowing my mind!! this kind of bs would be a major set back. i just couldnt believe the guy for regulation had a straight face.

the biggest thing is it would be taxed!

isnt this part of the "hacker" mindset? to protect their liberity?

It is quite sad because it is quite true and has already been implemented at least once in Canada.

This quote is from a great Watchdog Site:

http://www.organicconsumers.org/

and the quote comes from this particular issue:

http://www.organicconsumers.org/bytes/OrganicBytes80.pdf

Telecommunications Giants Move to Control How You Surf the Web

A nationwide network of nonprofit organizations, including the Organic Consumers Association, are mobilizing to stop Congress from passing a law that would enable telecommunications giants to control the flow of traffic on the internet.

Companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are pressuring Congress to pass the "Telecom Reform Bill" that would allow them to restrict or slow down your access to certain websites on the internet. As an example, last year, Canada's version of AT&T—Telus—blocked their internet customers from visiting a web site sympathetic to workers with whom Telus was negotiating.

This controversial bill would create a similar situation in the US whereby telephone and cable companies would have increased power to control how well (or poorly) specific websites, including those operated by nonprofit organizations, would function on your computer. The current construction of the internet allows everyone to compete on a level playing field. This is the reason that the internet is a force for economic innovation, civic participation and free speech. If the public doesn't speak up now, Congress will hand over control of the internet to these telecommunications monopolies.

I do try to make any post I make as 'user friendly' as possible. I'll also try to incorporate some humor whenever possible, but, unfortunately some of the font variations are due to User Error on my part and some are the result of copy + laziness = different font. For example, my original Intro post was not supposed to have a different type of font for the last few lines, but, I was unable to change it after bringing it in from spell check and decided it was now a feature and not a bug.

The only other forum I frequent, you guessed it, da Bears, has some different controls, lay-out, etc. and it will take me a while to understand this new realm. One of these days, I know I'm going to Add Reply rather than Review Post because those buttons are reversed on the other site. As long as none of the buttons on my browser's interface are attached to any nuclear material we should all be fine.
