OK, assuming you haven't installed any new hardward/software just before this started happening...

1. Cold boot your computer. That is, turn it off, unplug it for at least 30 seconds, then start it.

2. Pray.

Hopfully it's just a software glitch, or a flutter in a piece of hardware. Otherwise, my best wild guess is a soundcard issue with the soundcard itself, or a sound file it is trying to play, because I'm guessing the sound that should play when you fire your rifle is causing the glitch. If the cold boot doesn't work, re-install COD which should only take 5 minutes if you have the CD handy. Finally, if that doesn't work, perhaps you're playing on some sort of map that has a special mod that changes the sound of your gun, etc, like the MOB stock server where the guns sound different. You may need to delete those and let them reload. If the other 3 steps don't work, let "us" know and someone can guide you through deleting those files.

Finally, if you DID just install a new piece of hardware/software, that's almost certainly your issue. It is causing a conflict of some sort. Test by removing that piece of software/hardware, coldboot and retry COD.

I know people always say this, but first off defrag your hard drive. When its done, check the option that tells you what files it couldn't move. If any of them are Call of Duty files, you need to free up hard drive space and run defrag again. I have had issues because of this.

Make sure your in-game audio is set to 2d miles fast positional audio. If you have an EAX enabled soundcard (like a Soundblaster Live), make sure EAX is turned off. I've had similar problems like you are describing.

Also if you decide to reinstall like MoD suggests, defrag the hard drive after you uninstall (before you reinstall the game)

Need more info:
It only happens with Call of Duty?
Did you install anything?
Did you mess with any settings?
Did you have alot of crap running in your task maanger?

Guys she didnt mention sound being a problem. This is a graphics problem from the way she stated it.... having said that without having more info about her cpu I'm not going to try and address the problem. Although, restarting and defraging could help. Make sure you arent running any unneeded programs in the background as well.... Are you still having this problem?

Yeah but when the sound of the rifle firing causes the game to freeze, its the same problem I had in Far Cry, and it was the soundcard. You never know what the hell could be causing stuff like that. Its always the last thing I try to troubleshoot.
