Full Version: what happend to stock maps?
i had the night free last night (fri) and it doesn't happen often.was stoked to get on some stocks but empty until 10 pm ,wtf i just went to bed ? where is every one, most of the other stocks servers are full.
Maybe this is first sings stock maps are loosing interest among ppl or they have bored to be
by Hamma, Cross... etc. on our stock server and have moved elsewhere. No meaning to offend you guys anyway. 
This has been discussed earlier, many opinions has been brought up and we should do something quite soon. For example, when I first started to play bas, I was a regular guest on Dev stock server for many months, untill I found our Barb server with a help of my friend. Since then it has been a second home for me. Waiting other players to show up to our stock server all day and seeing all friends having fun on other servers can´t be the only answer for this. Ideas
I was checking ventrilo after our scrimmy last nite and saw most the regulars on stocks channel, so I figured they were playing.......this was around 10:00pm CST. Not sure why those servers were empty though. Too bad, as a free evening doesn't happen often, eh?
Thats a great Question Undead 1.I've been thinking the same thoughts for about a week or two.Lately i have'nt been playing much,don't get in thr till late,but i have noticed its empty alot..I think many of our Regs have migrated to the Barb server getting prep for the scrim comeing up.

I've been on Barb the last few nights honing my long shots. But usually I'm on stocks as are a few others. Friday nights tend to be a small turnout anyway. I figure Mech is right with the scrims this week on Barb. Stocks is fine but another map tossed into the rotation couldn't hurt.

we should have a stocks night or something.we are currently #1 in twl in stocks but tf and barb are the only ones full. i don't know much about how things work but i think with out a popular stocks server ,could be bad for the barb and tf servers.adding maps isn't the answer,although ive suggested it many times. i saw csa was dead for a while but lately a bunch of them log on and play themselves and next thing you know-full.this is at different times of the day too ,not just at night.
I never see anyone in DeV's stock server either, even tho Piranhas sits in there all day long so it won't be empty. Maybe MOB and DeV are just too good, lol. Ouch and I were playing on CSA server the other day and even tho other clans were in there we were consistantly the top scorers.
Realistically speaking, it seems that CSA's stock maps server is usually going strong because they almost always have 4 or 5 CSA guys in there. Our stock maps fill up quickly when we get 4 or 5 of us playing at once.

Most of the week it has been full ,or nearly full......Fridays do tend to slack of abit (dont know why).

I've also been watching the other BA servers and there seems to be a big drop in the overall number of people playing BA. Only a handful of the BA servers are active anymore. I remember a year ago when there were litterally a couple/few dozen BA servers with people on them.
Unfortunately I dont know what the answer is.

5. Got banned off of every UO base assault server......switched to console.....
4. Upgrade video card, or buy two new console games?...Hmmmmm......
3. Switched to COD2.....computer won't run it.....begged mom and dad for console....got grounded....

well I'm seeing a lot of old time regulars of stocks in other servers like rsnipe,baddad -hell , i even saw baconfat (don't know if it was the same) the other day.im not buying the "were to good excuse" dev has 15 guys on their server almost every morning around 10 am.before i was involved in mob i looked for servers (still do) that the admins werent a bunch of dicks and i actually stopped playing mob for a while because of some run ins with cleaner but since hes been gone the skill level has always been the highest.i also would join the server if alot of their clan were/are playing because i know we will have a good game and there wont be any noobs tking and what not.im not trying to get my hate mail box to fill up again , just wondering.
i think broadsword is dead and laggy,there are alot of new maps that are very cool out there.i love dragoon ,wessel 2, the ax foy is awesome,we could do Kharkov -i played a really cool map on 355th the other day called frontline b/a,with anti tank guns lots of tanks , assault and snipers.

We need to do something to juice it up. Only thing it seems people are into now are modern weapons,planes,and custom maps. IMO if they want that go play Bf2. Adding some different maps in might help it at bit. I also think that us not taking any crap like people just randomly shooting tk'ing and usint the team chat like a chat board is why we dont get people. But really id rather play with around 8 mob/regs than play with 15 tards just talking about what happen at school or who they got with last nite.

I think the intelligent players are tired of going on Offense and destroying all the enemy bases only to find that they're last bunker is planted while some tards just stand around outside the bunker with sniper rifles. These are also the people who repeatedly do stupid things like shoot your machine gun, block doors, attempt tk'ing, hit you with jeep across the map, taking the heavy North on kursk and then just camping with it, or just stand there with no F'ing idea of what is going on and occupying a slot that a competitive player can use. I'm sure you've all encountered these people. There have been several instances that Dean and I have sought games elsewhere for these reasons. I have been playing deathmatch. That is where the competition is! No stupidity. Because the whimpy's just come in there, get killed a few times and are like "screw this, I'll go to base assualt and attack some peeps who ain't looking"

I have to agree with you completely. That is exactly why I stopped playing a long time ago. For some reason stocks always attracted those noobs. Barb has its share, mind you, but for the most part they seem to be drawn to stocks for some crazy reason.
Enough I say! lol.
The reason no mod or new map has been added to the server,is the fact that CSA,DEV and any other TWL team,uses the NORMAL maps as interactive practice.
not saying they need to be altered in any way,just wondering where everyone is??
I would suggest a tdm set-up like Happy Penguin's 24/7 tdm Foy. No 88s. It's insanely busy most of the entire 24. I don't play cod much now but I like popping in there; It's a nice set-up they have--- 40 player slots and even though the server crashes 2 or 3 times a day, they still fast recover to full games. Just a suggestion. And although everyone there whines persistently about large numbers of tanks taking ownership and having decimating spawn ownage effect, they all still play there- it's a good sized map with constant action-and fun. Generally the reason is tactics rather than strategy is the key for winning... so noobs there can still make the game fun.

You'll have to clear up the difference between "strategy" and "tactics" to me.
However, the idea of no 88's is a good one. Although I don't think anyone will go for it until it's dead and buried, I'd love to try Barb out with the paks removed, increase time limit to 70 minutes, one round games. No long distance pakking to cover plants, but then no paks for defence either, and you'd have one heck of a lot of arty parties after about 45 minutes!

One issue I've always had with the Stock Map server is that it really isn't a pure stock map server. We have the weapon sound mod. Over the years there have been so many people who have come into the server and thought we had some kind of hack running because they had to download a mod. I know everyone loves the cool weapon sounds, but if we truly want to appeal to the widest audience with our stock map server, I'd advocate we pull that mod. The more hurdles we remove for new players to join, the better.

I wonder how many other servers (stocks) don't require any download whatsoever if you have never played there before? Seems like everytime I join one, I always have to download something....usually. Maybe it is a turnoff to some. If the factory sounds aren't too intolerable, then maybe give it a go and see what happens.

The sound mod has been on our stock server for a couple of years at least. I'm kind of old-school to say the least and I used to avoid all servers that had mods. I even went as far as to filter them out of my game browser. My two nephews were gaming with me one day and one of them stumbled into the MOB server. If it wasn't for him, I never would have found all these great friends. I wonder how many other stuck-in-the-muds are out there. Of course, perhaps we have too many of those types already!!
I think we should put it up for a vote. Clearly, the popularity of the stock server has taken a dramatic dive. Last year at this time we were consistently ranked in the top 30 most popular servers. Now we are flirting with disaster in the 300s. We've got to come up with something to attract more people. Perhaps we could try it for a month and if the server fails to gain in popularity, we could bring the mod back. That way, some_help can listen to cool sounds as he wanders around on an empty map!

Yes it is. That stuff only works in forests I'm told.....I've never been there to hear it though

wasn't suggesting a change at all ,was just wondering where everyone is? had a good couple of rounds sat so i just think we should show up more. by far its the most competitive stocks server to play on for u/o.
